Andrews to pick up North Jersey support?

by: Juan Melli

Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 11:25:41 AM EDT

PolitickerNJ is reporting that Andrews may be about to pick up some major North Jersey endorsements. This is apparently not an April Fools joke:
There is considerable speculation among Democrats that Rob Andrews is about to secure some major endorsements for his U.S. Senate bid against Frank Lautenberg - possibly including State Senators Raymond Lesniak (D-Union) and Brian Stack (D-Hudson), and Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero.
Update: flip-flopping Senator Steve Sweeney says he'll also support Andrews if he decides to run.

The undeniable logic of a new candidate (4.00 / 2)
The Republicans have no viable candidate for US Senate in 2008. While I would not guarantee the Presidential race to a Democrat, it's pretty certain the Dem will take NJ. Thus there is almost certainly a coattail effect shoe-in win for the Democratic Senate candidate, whether that candidate is Lautenberg or Andrews or TBA. WHY WAIT to retire Frank in 2014, and have to run his successor in that uncertain future climate, when whoever the Democrats pick is almost certainly going to win in 2008 and be positioned to run as an incumbent in 2014? I generally keep my keyboard shut on this topic around here, as Frank is so loved (as well he should be), but strategically, putting a new face in the Senate is the right thing to do this year. It appears that others are beginning to see the same logic.

(I'm not thrilled with Andrews, but I really don't want to see Lautenberg doddering into his twilight as our man in the US Senate-there, I've said it. Sorry. Now is the optimal time to have hm step down).

Hey, Andy Unanue is viable! (4.00 / 1)
Please, please believe me Republican primary voters!

LOL: Gee, This Bit Sure "Rings True"... (0.00 / 0)
"I've done all I can to clean up the Democratic stink in this state, and now will work to defeat Democrats as the Republican nominee in the 7th District," said Christie.  "I've been after Linda Stender for six years, but I can't manufacture anything that'll stick.  She is, unfortunately, an honest public servant.

Brilliant stuff  ;-)

Go Linda!!!

I say get Rob Andrews out of DC completely (0.00 / 0)
I have been trying to post Rob's voting record & what it's  like living in the 1st District with Rob as my rep to as many places as possible.

Here is the correct record of District 1 representative:

1. Was personally picked by Bush to push for the Iraq War Resolution and still hasn't admitted he was wrong or sorry for his actions. http://www.house.gov/andrews/p...

2. He still defends the vote for the resolution: http://nj.nationaljournal.com/...

3. He voted both times (2000 & 2005 ) for the Bankruptcy Act, which over 57% are filed due to healthcare/medically expenses, also a large portion are filed due to divorce and loss of employment.
Thus hurting the middle class.

4. He was the only New Jersey Representative to vote for the Military Commissions Act.

5. He voted for the Patriot Act and the repeal of Habeas Corpus.
                                      http://projects.washingtonpost...

6. Voted in favor of expansion for the FISA Act.

7. Voted for dumping of nuclear waste on Yucca Mt. Neveda.

8. Constitutents have sometimes waited 2 or 3 years to have a meeting with Rob. And he seldom fulfills his promises to them. Sometimes having Rob cancel meetings with them, 5,6, up to 10 times.

9. As for diverting tax dollars to Camden, well New Jersey receives one of smallest returns on their tax dollars(61cents) compared to neighboring states, NY- 77cents, DE-79cents and PA-1.07. Now this should tell you why our taxes are so high in NJ , we are not getting our fair share returned to the state.

10. As for Rob authoring bills, he does like to write allot of them,  in the past 12years he has submitted 509 to committee, out of that only 4 made it out of committee and none became law. That is a very poor record for a congressman who has been there for over 17yrs.

11. He is not for marriage equality. He even had the guts to put that in his Xmas card a couple of years back.

Regretfully on a number of the major votes over the years, Rob has sided with the wrong side and has added to the financial drain this war has placed on the economy, when over the past 7 1/2 years he has remained silent, avoiding entirely the demand for accountability from this administration.

Rob is nothing but a Bush backer in diguise.

Please help rid South Jersey of this embarrassment !!!!!!!!

Draft Rush Holt (0.00 / 0)
Well, not that that's going to happen, unless Frank decided to retire unilaterally. As I said, I'm not cuckoo for Andrews and I thank roses4jo for putting some meat onto the bones of my distaste. In the end, Frank will run and he will win - I just wish we could get someone new (and worthwhile) in that Senate seat before 2014, which (I predict) will be a very different world than the one of 2008 and not I fear a better one for Democrats and progressives. (It could not POSSIBLY be as good as this year is for putting up a new face for that seat).
