Jon Corzine
  • It's been nearly a year since Corzine's accident, and the Governor has made a remarkable and improbable recovery.
  • Democratic US Senate primary

  • US Senator Frank Lautenberg kicks off his campaign today as Tom Byrne and Donald Cresitello mull primary challenges.
  • Racial profiling

  • The Corzine administration says it's time to end federal monitoring of New Jersey state police ten years after a notorious racial profiling incident.
  • Ancora, redacted

  • The Corzine administration released more than 500 emails, some of them seemingly indiscriminately redacted, about the death of a patient at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital.
  • More Jersey geography

  • Monmouth University Polling Institute weighs in on the North Jersey/South Jersey debate.
  • Farmers agree: Cut someone else's program!

  • Farmers are predictably upset about Corzine's budget, which shuts down the state's Department of Agriculture.
  • Stuck on budget band-aids

  • Do early retirement incentives amount to nothing more than another budget quick fix?
  • New Jersey Muslims

  • Speakers at a Muslim community brunch in Teaneck encouraged New Jersey Muslims to be more politically active.
  • Commerce Bank

  • Commerce Bank, New Jersey's largest, will be acquired by TD Bank Financial Group today.
  • RU to the elite eight

  • The Rutgers women shut down George Washington yesterday 53-42 thanks to 25 points from the fabulously-named Essence Carson. Rutgers will face UConn, widely regarded as the nation's best team, in the elite eight on Tuesday.

    I'm calling the governor out... (0.00 / 0)
If the dept. of Ag. has to go, so be it. But the gov. has to be consistent.
Last year he told us that forgiving the union's agreement to pay 1.5% for retiree's healthcare was 'de minimus'. (that was 2 million dollars I believe) If 2 million is 'de minimus', I don't see how 4 million is a 'necessary step' in the right direction.
This is the problem with the gov., I want him to succeed, but he's never going to get any credibility with these inconsistencies that look like he's taking care of friends rather than fixing the budget.
We get it, there are many, many, more union workers than farmers, but that still doesn't make it right.

I'm not necessarily against cutting the dept. of Ag. But certainly, he should have required the union to live up to its agreement first.

    another good article (4.00 / 1)
    There's  a good article
in today's edition of The Daily Journal (Vineland) titled "North v. South: Divided Over Aid" that poses the question whether aid is perceived as disproportionately helping North Jersey over South Jersey. Some good quotations from Ass. Albano and Sen. Van Drew are included.

    Van Drew:

"Money does tend to flow north," he said. "There's a larger population up there, and that's where New Jersey's power base is, really. But it's important to have legislators from all counties working together. We're unifying, but we need to do more."

    madness (4.00 / 1)
The state spends hundreds of millions on farmland preservation and then tries to save a few million (or less) on eliminating the Dept of Agriculture.   Though Corzine has certainly been consistent in not caring much about open space preservation either.

I have to think of a witty signature about Frank LoBiondo
