NJ GOP Recruits Only The Best

Today we learned from Herb Jackson -- one of my absolute favorite writers on politics, BTW -- that Senate candidate and NJ GOP savior Andy Unanue allowed Goya Foods to pay for a political consultant when he was considering a run for Congress a couple years back.  This is a serious no-no, because corporations are not allowed to fund political campaigns.  That's why they set up PACs.

So that's one count of campaign finance violation.

Now we learn from PoliticsNJ.com PolitickerNJ.com that Unanue doesn't even live in New Jersey, but in New  York City.

But that's not the real news, which is buried under the headline and lead.  Apparently Unanue is engaging in a little voter fraud in that he is registered to vote at his parent's house, but doesn't live there.

Voting records show Unanue listed at an Alpine residence. A search of tax records for that home, however, shows that it is owned by his parents, Joseph and Carmine Unanue. The housekeeper confirmed that the home does not belong to Andy Unanue and he does not live there.

But wait, it turns out that Unanue is living in New Jersey, because, you see, he is New Jersey.

"Andy Unanue lives in New Jersey, he votes in New Jersey, his car is registered in New Jersey, he pays New Jersey auto insurance, and his business is in New Jersey," said Unanue Campaign Manager Mark Duffy. "Andy Unanue is New Jersey.?

So now he shows up to work hung over, misuses corporate funds to pay for campaign expenses, and is registered to vote at an address where he doesn't live.

Great recruit, Tom Wilson.  Please, give us some more!

The hits just keep coming... (0.00 / 0)
This is the state of the NJ GOP.  "Jersey Joe" loses party support to newcomer "NYC Andy" for the NJ Senate Race.

This has to be one of the worst campaign kickoff weeks I have ever seen.  Other than the fact that he has money and can self finance, has he had 1 good story?

What next, he's not really an heir to Goya, just some guy who likes the food?

Just amazing.

This is glorious.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

someone get Ajjan a blog (0.00 / 0)
I love this part of the politckernj.com story:

George Ajjan, a spokesman for rival Republican candidate Murray Sabrin, said that influential Republicans, in their haste to find a new candidate, had failed to vet him properly.

Perhaps the failed party bosses like Adam "big mouth, little ears" Puharic, should do a better job of vetting candidates before they try to ram a slick New York inhabiting nightclub owning playboy down the throats of the hard working Republican rank-and-file," he said.

What about income tax? (0.00 / 0)
The real issue for me is where does he pay state income tax; New York or New Jersey?

What if his last name was "Clinton"? (4.00 / 1)
Carpetbagging worked for her, why not him?

Seriously, this is a silly argument.  Hilliary had no ties to NY before she decided to run for Senate from there.

If you want to beat up this guy, do it on his policies.

No, it's not. (0.00 / 0)
The point isn't that he lives in New York and wants to run in New Jersey.  That's perfectly legal.  In fact, he could live in Paris, France and run in New Jersey as long as 1) he's a citizen and 2) he moved here before election day.

But the point here is that he is registered to vote in New Jersey at an address where he doesn't live.  That's voter fraud, and we usually don't elect people engaged in voter fraud to the United States Senate.

There's also the issue of his vehicle and other registrations and whether they are legal if he doesn't live at the address where he's listed them.

However, all he needs to do is go before the NJ State Supreme Court.  They like to "bend" constitutional and statutory law, especially when it comes to the election of US Senators.
