Quote of the Day

by: Juan Melli

Jon Corzine, who in 2000 outspent his Senate primary rival Jim Florio by 20-1, then outspent his Republican challenger Bob Franks by 10-1, and in 2005 even outspent millionaire Doug Forrester by $15 million, asked his supporters to help Hillary Clinton. His reason?:
This election shouldn't be decided by who can run the most TV ads. It should be decided on the strength of each candidate's vision, experience, and qualifications.

But instead, Hillary has been outspent by substantial margins in all the recent primary contests. Now it's time for us to do our part at this critical point in history to level the playing field and prove to voters in Texas and Ohio what I've known for a long time. There's no one more qualified to be President of the United States.

Help. We need more doughnuts and parking and Mark Penn. Send money! /snark

Seriously though, this isn't about a lack of money. Clinton raised over $100 million. This is about mismanaging that money by wasting it on idiots like Mark Penn instead of organizing on the ground, and about outright mocking or diminishing the importance of entire swaths of the country.

snark (4.00 / 1)
Can you imagine the snarkiness of some of the Clinton supporters if Obama was 0-11 and pleading for money to just keep up???

worse than 0-11 (4.00 / 1)
Obama hasn't lost a single day
Each day delegates were won Obama first, followed by Clinton

How much does it cost to open (4.00 / 3)
a storefront office in Omaha, Lincoln, Boise, Topeka, Walla Walla, Fairbanks, Portland, or Waverly?

Not that much.

$100 million gets you alot of three month storefront rentals, phone lines and cafeteria tables.

I dont think Carol Shea Porter rented (0.00 / 0)
too many offices.

Yes, Juan, It Isn't About The Money; Yet it IS About The Money... (4.00 / 1)
Both statements are true.

In the sense that Juan means when he says...

Seriously though, this isn't about a lack of money. Clinton raised over $100 million. This is about mismanaging that money by wasting it on idiots like Mark Penn instead of organizing on the ground, and about outright mocking or diminishing the importance of entire swaths of the country.

That's clearly screamingly true; and no doubt people will write articles and books on the nuts and bolts of how the hubris drenched (and now desperate)  Clinton campaign "blew it".

But on another, deeper, level it is ALL about the money.

I won't "hijack the thread" but simply/briefly point in the general direction of how campaigns are financed.   America's whole "democratic" process is corrupted and perverted by money....lots and lots of money.

very true (0.00 / 0)
while 90% of Obama's donors have donated under 1000 dollars 50% of the actual money came from the 10% of big money donors. over 1000 dollars

The problem (4.00 / 3)
is that Clinton planned to have everyone knocked out by Super Tuesday.  So a great deal of the money she raised can't be used in the primaries.  She has tons of money and none at all.

While running a 1990's style campaign (4.00 / 1)
in the Post Dean Scream era, the age of Carol Shea Porter.
