Oscar-licious

It's official!  Freehold, the Laurel Hester Story is now an Academy Award winner.  Looks like story of a New Jersey civil rights hero just took on epic proportions.  I am so excited I can't even type!!

Please share your reactions, too!

Check out the announcement and the victory speech.  It's really thrilling.

I was so excited I couldn't wait to congratulate them here on Blue Jersey.  Wish I was there celebrating with you all at the Oscars party - but I've been thinking of you guys all night!

Congrats to Cynthia Wade! (4.00 / 2)

And I couldn't believe earlier when they gave a second chance to the co-songwriter of the best orginal song, after she was played over by the orchestra.  Kudos to whoever made that decision.  It felt like another 80th anniv. first.

Her comments were (AP):

"The fact that we're standing here tonight, the fact that we're able to hold this, it's just proof that no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible," Irglova said during take two. "And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream, and don't give up. This song was written from the perspective of hope, and hope, at the end of the day, connects us all, no matter how different we are."

Has she been following Obama's campaign?

Tonight, Garden State Equality released a video of Lt. Hester (4.00 / 3)
that she recorded days before she died.  The video is now up on the home page of our website at www.GardenStateEquality.org

Why not leave a positive pro-Marriage Equality comment there, before the morons come out in force?

"before the morons come out in force?"

Too late....

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

The Ledger item has a link to an audio slide show which is really great.

There's a link in that story to the slide show--it's really awesome!

BTW, I found it by following the link in the Monday news roundup on Blue Jersey--it was in the very first item (hah!)

I'm so glad you posted the video of the nominations and the announcement and the acceptance speech...first we were all holding our breath and then we were all either cheering or crying or both. And oh, Jay, we missed you!
