Tell NJ Legislators, 'Pass Family Leave Insurance NOW!'

by: Bergen County AFL-CIO

Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 02:18:01 PM EST

This is important. The Senate committee vote is on Monday, so contact your legislators today, especially if you're represented by Senators Redd, Ruiz, Stack, or Cunningham. Promoted from the diaries. -- Juan

Last year, Family Leave Insurance almost became a reality in New Jersey. While the bill failed to pass last legislative session, this is the farthest it had moved through the legislative process since it was first introduced in 1992. Let's keep up the momentum to pass this important bill.

On Monday, January 28, the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee will hold hearings on Family Leave Insurance (S786). Please take a moment to send the members of the committee a letter asking them support Family Leave Insurance. This is the first step to passing this critical piece of legislation.

Bergen County AFL-CIO :: Tell NJ Legislators, 'Pass Family Leave Insurance NOW!'
This bill would extend benefits provided through the state's Temporary Disability Insurance program to workers caring for sick family members, newborns or newly adopted children.

The business lobby has continued their campaign of misinformation and spin in hopes of killing this important legislation. Without strong support from New Jersey's Working Families, this bill will never be passed.

Here are the members of the Budget and Appropriations Committee. Call them and let them know that you support Paid Family Leave Insurance.

Thank you Bergen County! (0.00 / 0)
Finally a Labor organization that is getting mobilized.

We can't allow ourselves to be outworked again!

Carla Katz at CWA is also actively working and contacting her members , but no other CWA State Union is working.

Three and one half days left and Kirschner and his anti-family crowd are making their contacts and telling the Legislators how this Bill will only add to the Recession woes! These people will do anything to defeat this Bill .

8 Yes Democrat votes needed (0.00 / 0)
Sweeney,Vitale, Buono, and most likely Sarlo are 4. Turner has joined Kirschner in his anti-family quest and will once again vote against this bill. So we need State Senators Redd, Ruiz, Stack, and Cunningham to support the Bill.

Today is the day to call or contact them. These 4 are all new( almost new in the case of Cunningham)State Senators. The community that frequents this site hopefully will properly introduce themselves!

Turners Office Abrupt and upset! (0.00 / 0)
The office of turncoat Turner is taking the heat! They were extremely upset that the State Senator is being categorized as Anti-Family. Thye even have a person who reads off a card when you call about Paid Family Leave.

Turncoat Turner has sold her soul .

call watson and gusciora (0.00 / 0)
they are in the same delegation as Turner and urge them to lean on her if they can.

Turner got bought (0.00 / 0)
Her office claims that her constituents are calling and telling her this bill is too expensive. NO WAY! She must have taken some money from some business people last year and is returning the favor. She voted no in Committee last time also and she was very chummy with the Chamber people. She is a phony who has been exposed.

Cunningham is a stong supporter (0.00 / 0)
After calling today it was found out that State Senator Cunningham's Office is  voicing  strong support of the Paid Family Leave Bill.

Thank you Senator Cunningham!!

Ruiz, Stack, and Redd ? (0.00 / 0)
Has anyone heard from these three?  All three will be needed since Turner has now become a Rush Limbaugh supporter.

family leave (1.00 / 2)
stop the insanity!!!!
say no to this!!!
i can't afford to give trenton another penny of my hard earned salary.  It is anti business and anti taxpayer.  Lets face it, the only people this was designed for were the unions.  Their workers can take time off, but the rest of us in the private sector can't.  If the unions want this, let them use their own dollars, not my money.  UGH!!!!!!
and i have some experience with this....i used to work for a unionized company, i was non union.  You noticed i said "used" to.  You see the company closed down...i worked there for over 20 years...they closed because of high labor costs...the union people would take the non paid family leave and guess what?  the people filling in for them were getting time and a half and better.  this was one small example example of the union squeezing every dollar they could from the company and the company finally said enough and they closed the facility.
A friend of mine, a republican, says that you want to know why many democrats eventually become republicans?  when they start making a good salary they realize that the democrats only want to tax you to death and thats why D's become R's.  He has a point.  I'm not going to become an R but i will continue to say no to tax and spend D's and their looney fiscal policies.

get it right (0.00 / 0)
the family leave is paid for by a small tax like uib and disabilty are . most states DO not have any form of disabilty insurence. should we get rid of that too as a not nessicry tax . that is untill you need it ., same with family leave .

Anti-Family sentiments (0.00 / 0)
You of course have the right to be anti-family and remain a Democrat. It is a shame you have decided to bow at the altar of the almighty dollar and forsaken those in need. This Bill is the most Pro-Family Bill in years and it costs almost nothing.

May I ask. What have you got against the sanctity of the family unit?

family leave (0.00 / 1)
i forgot to mention...
if carla katz is for it, then you know its a rip off for the taxpayer!!!!!!

Question still unanswered (0.00 / 0)
Why have you decided to be against the sanctity of the family unit? It can't be the 78 cents thsi bill will cost you every week. why are you so anti-family?

Hey firstadmen07 (0.00 / 0)
its "profamily" if you are a union member...
it doesn't cost much?
funny thats what our fellow D's in trenton have been saying since Jimmy MCG was Governor...thats why this state is a fiscal mess...because our fellow D's have been spending our tax money like drunken sailors (with all due respect to drunken sailors)
the people of this state don't have another a penny (literally)!!! to give to trenton...its another way of taking money from my paycheck and giving to a union member.....i am fed up with my fellow D's who just come up with more ways to take more of my hard earned money away from me...

I Support Paid Family Leave (4.00 / 2)
I support paid family leave.

When you cut through the spin and really look at the issue, it's just the right thing to do for New Jersey's working families.

That's why I'm proud to support this measure and why I co-sponsored it in the last legislative session.

Thank you Linda! (0.00 / 0)
Three Senators will make the difference. If Redd,Ruiz, and Stack are in favor this bill will go to the Senate Floor and pass. It also has majority support in the House.

With friends like Linda Stender we have a chance to getthis Pro-family bill passed despite the opposition of the " punk76" people of the state.
