Will GOP Congressional Challengers campaign with Mr. 20%?

by: Jason Springer

Tue Jan 22, 2008 at 08:57:29 PM EST

bushOh, I can't wait for the President to come to town...
Despite his low approval ratings, President Bush will still be welcome on the campaign trail for Republican congressmen in 2008, said Rep. Tom Cole, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).
So here's the question, will he be welcome and invited to campaign for the challengers in NJ-3 and NJ-7?  Let's see how NJ voters currently feel about their fearless leader...
Only a fifth (20%) say they approve of the job President Bush is doing, a seven point drop from October.  And stark partisan differences are evident, with just 4 percent of Democrats approving of President Bush but about half of Republicans approving of him (48%).
Do you think Chris Myers, John Kelly, Kate Whitman and Leonard Lance want the President to come join them on the trail and "give them a boost"?  Maybe someone should ask them.

If they don't accept him (0.00 / 0)
will they still accept his money?

Well, we know the answer to that one.

and look at the right track/wrong track (0.00 / 0)
It is now 75% Wrong Track - 16% Right Track -- the numbers have grown worse each poll since January 2007.  Even Republicans now have a majority for wrong track.  58% say Iraq is not going well and 69% say the war was a mistake.

These numbers  are from before today's stock market problems.

what about the stimulus package? (0.00 / 0)
Bush and the Democrats in the House and Senate seem to be on the same page with regards to the economic stimulus package that is being discussed.

Assuming that this cooperation continues and the package is passed, does anybody think that this could have a significant impact on Bush's numbers?

BTW, can anybody tell me what the difference is between the tax rebates being discussed for this package that Democrats seem to think are OK and the tax rebates that they so vociferously opposed in 2001?

It seems like a bad idea back then should still be a bad idea today.

I think what Democrats are saying now is pretty similar to what they said in 2001:

They wanted checks mailed out immediately to help the economy.  Of course, the Republicans got the long-term tax cuts they wanted, and credit for everything, so the Dems were just suckers.

Lance and Whitman (0.00 / 0)
Well.....

It was less than a year ago that Leonard Lance brought Bush in for a fundraiser wasn't it?

As for Kate Whitman - Since her mom bought George W. Bush his puppy dog right before serving in his cabinet, I'm sure she is comfy around our Commander in Chief, too.
