More Legal Corruption At Somerset Park Commission?

by: huntsu

Fri Jan 18, 2008 at 10:49:14 AM EST

This is pretty fricking amazing.  Over the past year we've learned more and more about the Somerset County Parks Commission and the massive waste of taxpayers dollars while the Republican Freeholders looked the other way.  Former Freeholders and Republican leaders were given cushy paying jobs, parks employees who worked in offices got cars, other parks employees got six figure salaries and incredibly low rents in publicly owned homes.  It was essentially a legal slush fund for rewarding friends and family.

And now, after a year of this and still no indictments, we get another six figure gift from the Parks Commission to a Republican politician in Somerset County.

A $225,000 contract for advertising work with the Somerset County Park Commission created heated discussion during a meeting of the agency's governing board Thursday night.

Scotch Plains-based Gallagher Advertising Inc. was awarded the work in an 7-1 vote. Somerville Mayor Brian Gallagher is a vice president and lead account executive with the family-owned company.

Gallagher is a Republican, in case anyone was keeping score at home.

Even better, the only place the commission advertised for the nearly quarter of a million dollar contract was on their own website!

Absolutely astonishing what these people can get away with.

Shocked but not Awed (0.00 / 0)
The last time I put up this video, some anonymous kook (allegedly from Englewood) accused me of somehow promoting Nazis!

Every pol in the state and the vast majority of our citizenry knows and understands that legalized corruption permeates our governance and, I dare say, the private sector.

Whatever "shock" they express whenever anything dirty comes to light is feigned.

The only way any of this bs ever stops is when we the people FORCE our representatives to write new laws that will put people in jail, for a long long long time when they dare to violate the public trust.

These reforms will come about when the majority of pols understand that they will lose their jobs if they fail to comply; and, of course, they'll frame it as if it was their idea all along.

Meanwhile the hogs will do all they can to maintain the status quo for as long as possible.   And they'll do all in their power to undermine the forces/agents of change.

In some senses, this is really not very complicated.

It's ALMOST as bad... (0.00 / 0)
as the 1.5 MILLION Newark gave the 6Sixty agency for virtually nothing. (see Joan Whitlow)

"Where ever you go, there you are." - Buckaroo Bonzai

Except (0.00 / 0)
that the people of Newark are slowly turning out the old leadership and replacing it with (hopefully) more honest public servants.

Republicans in Somerset only recently voted to keep their old corrupt leadership.  Because Somerset Republicans were unwilling to call for real change by crossing a party line to vote, they have imposed yet another generation of asshattery upon all residents of Somerset.

In my book, that makes it worse.
