Hoboken Mayor David Roberts explains why he contributed $450 to Rudy 9iu11iani, despite not supporting him:
"I had only been mayor of Hoboken for a couple months when Sept. 11 occurred, and I went over to New York City with some other officials. Fifty-seven Hoboken residents, people who lived in the 07030 zip code, died on Sept. 11. My mom, a very conservative Republican, loves Rudy Giuliani, and when he was speaking down the block from where we have our summer home, I purchased a ticket and I went and I listened. And honestly, there are people within my world who are supporting Rudy Giuliani, but I am not doing that. I am a Democratic mayor in Hudson County, standing alongside Sen. Menendez, Gov. Corzine, Rep. Sires and Maurice Fitzgibbons in backing Hillary Clinton, and I will be helping her every way I can."
I wish all the people who didn't support Blue Jersey would send us large checks, too.

What? (0.00 / 0)
This is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Essentially Roberts is saying he gave to Giuliani because of a speech after a disaster where Giuliani's response proved ... disastrous.

Giuliani is all talk and no action on 9/11, but apparently Roberts likes that in someone he donates to.

His $450 would have gone farther (0.00 / 0)
as donations to the victims' families.

That being said, who cares?  The better question is: how's Mayor Roberts serving the people of Hoboken?

I'd want that checked out (0.00 / 0)
A sitting mayor charged constituents $450 for a pair of tickets ($225 each) to hear him speak post 9/11 ON a street where the Roberts have a summer home?  And who "summers" in NYC?  From Hoboken?

Maybe it was an event at a place that he isn't explaining well and maybe he's telling a little white lie about the time period.  If that ticket thing checked out, I'd cut him some slack.  I resent tickets to events are held as "campaign contributions."  There are lots of impartial reasons one might want to attend an event without intention to fund a campaign.  A good mayor doesn't isolate himself from any point of view on the spectrum.

That said, I've long felt in my gut that there are clandestine adversarial operatives within the Democratic Party.  I'm not sure what to think of the source of "insurgents" -- GOP, CIA, OGA or something more nebulous -- but I've observed for about a decade or so that some Democrats seem to answer to someone besides themselves or the DNC or their constituents, or even any apparent money interest.  I read a credible semi-mainstream piece the other day (maybe something by Scott Horton?) about the CIA having an operative working in offices very close to the governors of every state, and I thought, "Hmm, now that's an interesting possibility." But I digress, I think.
