And btw, I''m pretty sure we're going to have to rework our Blue Jersey Radio logo with the new snap of Jay and Jeff.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

    1) Blue Jersey was a sponsor;

    2) What were the results?

    Rothman & Stempler (0.00 / 0)
What has XT been feeding him?  I think that we might find Steve Rothman's name listed on next week's Mitchell Report.

That said, you have to give a lot of credit to a candidate like Barack Obama if he is capable of inspiring a formerly mild-mannered, milquetoastish, nebbish of a Congressman to give as gutsy of a speech as he gave last night.

Not that it was a particularly good one, but it was gutsy.  I don't know if I necessarily agree that Hillary Clinton would lose us any more or less Congressional seats around the country than Obama, but considering the rah-rah quality of the other "pros" who spoke, it took guts for Rotham to say what he said.

That said, I think that the best speech of the night came from a "amateur", Larry Stempler, who was representing Joe Biden.  Despite the fact that Larry is a friend and I was with Biden in the first round last night, I was really impressed with him.

And as much as I will probably wind up being with Barack Obama on February 5 in the same way that I was with him at the end of the night last night, it really is a shame that two truly accomplished, brilliant, and experienced people like Joe Biden and Bill Richardson cannot get more traction.

No matter who the Democratic and Republican nominees are, it appears as if we are destined to, once again, have second-rate representation at best.

    face it! (4.00 / 2)
Bertin, politics is the art of the possible.  Quoting Jim Florio at the State Democratic Conference, "no matter which Democratic candidate wins the presidency, we're going to have a grownup in the White House for the first time in eight years."

What you describe as "second-rate representation" is a hell of a lot better than any of the Republican alternatives.  I went from Biden to Clinton to Edwards last night and, like Linda Stender, will enthusiastically support and work hard for whoever the Democratic candidate turns out to be.  Let's not let 2000 happen again!

BTW, it doesn't take "guts" to take a couple of cheap shots at the national frontrunner.  Rothman did something similar at the State Democratic Conference--and once was enough, thank you.  It's all very well, and perfectly appropriate, to say, "my candidate is better than yours," but attacking another Democratic candidate the way he did simply feeds the right-wing propaganda machine.

This is going to be a difficult campaign, no matter who is nominated by either party.  If Clinton winds up as the nominee, Rothman is going to have to either eat his words or keep his mouth shut.

    Is that Hillary's strategy? (4.00 / 1)

That many Democratic voters keep their mouths shut about her many problems?  I don't know what "the cheap shots" said last night were, but the Republicans already know and will use everything against Hillary if she is the ultimate nominee.

Personally, I don't see how she can be elected.  The lucky "$100,000" she made playing the futures market can only be seen in light of the dot.com/corporate embezzlements of 2000-2002 as an insider receiving a pay off from a lobbyist.  The Republican machine will bring that up time and time again as an attack on her character.  I just don't see most Americans being able to vote for her for that and other similar situations.

It's tragic for me because she may be the politician whose political views I like the most.  But there's just too much other baggage.  It is better to have this dialogue now than after she's the nominee.

    Great night, great photos (4.00 / 2)
Allen, thanks for all these terrific photos of last night's caucus.

We had a bunch of press coverage there, including WNBC in New York which did a 60-second spot on last night's 11 o'clock news.  (They haven't posted it on their web site yet, but I'll add a link when/if they do.)

If anybody has links to news articles or videos about the caucus, please post them here!

Thanks again to all the co-host organizations and everyone who contributed time, effort, and energy to a marvelous and vigorous night of discussion and debate.

Great event, I really enjoyed the evening. (0.00 / 0)

I had fun last night.  It was great to see a bunch of people I hadn't had a chance to talk with in a while.

All of the speakers did well by their candidates with the unfortunate exception of Rothman.  Like I said in an earlier thread, Rothman has gone from being soporific to being antagonistic.  That is NOT an improvement.

Obviously, the Clinton camp can spin this however they wanted, but they could have flooded the room if they had the people.  Either NJ is not that important on the ground for them or there aren't enough people to come.

Obama's people were probably the most enthusiastic (by a very slight margin).  Kudos definitely have to go to the Edwards' camp for winning.  After all, if anyone else had won, this would have been spun as a big event!

I do believe that we all need to commit ourselves to support whomever the final nominee is.  We don't have the luxury of passing judgment from Mount Olympus.  It is too important and the GOP candidates are way too scary.

    Creed, once again (0.00 / 0)
we are on the same page!  See my reply to Bertin's comment on another thread (knowing you, you probably already have).

Expecting any candidate to do everything we want done--or even to try--is simply delusional.  Any of the Democrats would be a 1000% improvement over what we've been living with for the past 8 years.

    Nice seeing you last night!

    Dixk Codey (0.00 / 0)
I can  never look at a photo of Dick Codey without comparing him to Jon Corzine. Who would you rather hang out with at a bar in Roselle Park? Who's more comfortable mingling with  a wide variety of grassroots party folks  in a bar in Roselle Park?
