Number of the Day: 11,000

by: Hopeful

Sat Oct 13, 2007 at 07:36:36 PM EDT

The New York Times tells what Bush has done:

11,000 children in low- and middle-income families in New Jersey who will no longer be covered by the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or S-Chip, under new federal income eligibility rules.

Scott Garrett, in the same article, says he is glad.

Jim Saxton, Rodney Frelinghuysen and Scott Garrett must be made to pay the ultimate price for their immoral, un-Godly and un-American "stand" on SCHIP.

They are willing to put at risk the whole program just to deny (what will amout to) a very small number of NJ families access to subsidized health coverage for their CHILDREN!!!

In NJ it is easy to conceive of a family of four earning a total of 72k with a large mortgage, car payments etc etc and a child or two with chronic asthma or other debilitating expensive chronic conditions that would require the kind of coverage that the Bush vetoed SCHIP plan delivers.

In the world of "The Three Privateers" such a family would have to spend down their assets and maybe sell their home to qualify for Medicaid.  How would THAT be good for the economy?

I believe we progressives need to press Pelosi and Reid (directly and through our whole delegation) to truly, for once, hang tough on an issue.

We have trained the Republicans to believe that we will always give in, sooner or later, and that they'll always be able to taint a noble effort with the stench of their own intransigence.

I understand that politics is often "the art of the compromise".  I also understand that there are times when (and issues for which) no compromise is acceptable.  This SCHIP bill is one of those times.

The bill should be reintroduced over and over and over again until there are enough votes to over ride Bush's vetoes; or until the November 08 elections when the American people and the people of New Jersey can "over ride" the maleficent jackasses who insist on standing in the way of common human decency.

Meanwhile, continuing resolutions will keep SCHIP as it is until we win in 08 or some more Republicans find their marbles; for the sake of the kids the latter is preferable.

As for the law suite; I fear that it will go to the SCOTUS and that they'll rubber stamp the "Imperial President's" rigging of the rules/regulations to eviscerate the spirit of the program.....so there will be a need for specific new legislation codifying what Corzine and Spitzer et al wish to do for our children.  Congress shouldn't wait on the judiciary; they need to pass legislation asap on these rules issues.

Let's face it, we're ultimately all in the same "pool".  It's called life.  We're all going to get sick or injured and we're all going to die.

It's actually a lot CHEAPER to cover everyone for everything.  Prevention is cheaper than waiting for sickness.

The current system is quite insane.  Insurance companies pay massive staffs to do all they can to take money in ("marketing/advertising/agents/commissions) while simultaneously doing all they can (claims "administrators/examiners/actuaries etc") to prevent it from leaving their coffers.  Meanwhile doctors and hospitals have to hire their own massive staffs to fight with the insurance companies over every penny.

The fact that Garrett had the unmitigated gall to give that quote to the NYT shows what a heartless beast he truly is.

From here on in he's no longer Scott Garrett; bit Sicko Garrett, the mis-leader of the Three Privateers.

The Social Darwinist Against Evolution Strikes Again....... (0.00 / 0)
What just infuriates me is that the head of the BCDO where I am a County Committee member did not see fit to spend a dime to fight for Garrett's seat, but they saw fit to spend $4 million of the BCDO money on the County Executive seat.  The 5th District has a heartless, soulless Scrooge as a Representative and our County Chairman only wants to mobilize his "machine" to secure his own piggy bank.  Meanwhile cruel Congressmen like Garrett continue to get re-elected to keep our kids in Iraq dying and our kids at home sick.  They just don't care about our children.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.
