We won the poll!

by: DottieG

Tue Oct 09, 2007 at 03:31:34 PM EDT

The Courier News (Bridgewater) has been running a cyber poll.  The results are in--and we won.

Here's the question:
Which nation's policies do you believe represent the biggest threat to our homeland security?

954 people responded. Here's how the answers broke down:

Iran:  35.3 per cent
North Korea:  9.5 percent
Our own government:  55.1 per cent

The Courier News' readership is mostly in Somerset and Hunterdon counties--a lot of which are in the 7th CD--and mostly Republican and non-affiliated.  Watch out, soon-to-be former Congressman Ferguson!

What do you mean "we won"? (0.00 / 0)
To have people think this way is a disaster for our nation.

Not a disaster (0.00 / 0)
Given the present circumstances, to have people NOT think this way would be a disaster for our nation; this attitude reflects a growing (although still nascent) sense of realism.  That's a good thing.

I meant it. (0.00 / 0)
When a majority of respondents are asked to choose between Iran, North Korea, and our own government as to which is more threatening to our "homeland security" and they pick those nuts in the White House, I think that's a victory for rationality.

I lived through the McCarthy era (Joe, that is) in the 1950s and the Nixon crimes & impeachment.  Believe me, the gang running the US is infinitely more dangerous than either of those other crooks.  If they have their way (or if Giuliani wins the White House), there will be an expansion of the war into other Middle East countries--that's the road to WW 3.  What kind of "homeland security" will we have then?

Yes, I believe we are in more danger from the Bush administration than from either Iran or North Korea.  And obviously, I'm not the only one.

Re: disaster (0.00 / 0)
I get where folks are coming from.  But at the end of the day, I'm with Juan.  That people have reason to feel this way is horrible.  We should be able to trust our own government and its policy making apparatus to keep us safe.

I agree with the sentiment -- that the policies of the Bush administration are making us less safe at home and abroad.  But I cannot bring myself to see this as a "win."  It's a loss all around, even if it's heartening to see people recognizing the reality.

When One Is Being Violated.... (0.00 / 0)
.......a step in the cessation of that violation is a "win".

The poll is just another indication that the people are light years ahead of their elected "leaders".

Now if we could just get all these good people to VOTE at the REAL polls on election day; that would be a  real win, eh!?!

Whether it's Bush on Iraq, Saxton/Garrett on SCHP of Ferierro on making scads of millions on legalized pay to play crap; it's all the same thing in some sense: smart aggressive ruthless people screwing the general public...and it has to stop.  And we have the power to stop it....if we choose to do so.
