5th district Congressional Democratic primary candidate Dennis Shulman blasted Congressman Garrett over his heartless vote against SCHIP:
"We certainly can do better than this. For God's sake, we're talking about sick children, and this is America. It is time for Scott Garrett to reconsider his opposition to this critical legislation and spend some time defending children's health, instead of his record of failed policies."
The campaign also announced the endorsement of former Sussex County Democratic chairman and freeholder Howard Burrell who will chair Shulman's political advisory committee.
Update: On her blog, Democratic primary candidate Camille Abate says Garrett has "blood on his hands":
Garrett used to be a lawyer for the insurance companies. They've been his bread and butter all his life. And you can see they're still his buddies, no matter what the consequences. As long as there's a dollar to be given, Mr. Garrett will see that it's given to them.
Garrett's vote will assure that President Bush's veto of the SCHIP legislation stands. If Bush's veto prevails, then for every child that dies as a result of not being insured, Scott Garrett shares the blood on his hands.
