Stand By Your Man

Even when he's about to drive off a cliff. Joe Ferriero loyal lemming Lynne Hurwitz admits that the BCDO chairman is an embarassment to the Democratic party:
Those opposed to the planned suit will be able to register their vote when the county committee meets. Or, said Hackensack Democratic Chairwoman Lynne Hurwitz, they could find time to schedule a private, diplomatic meeting with Ferriero.

"I've never known him not to want to sit down and discuss things," Hurwitz said. "The desire to bring it out on the street only tells me that they want a raucous confrontation and to embarrass the party."

Get that? Everything Joe Ferriero wants to do should be discussed in private because it would be too embarrassing if anyone else found out. Without a hint of irony, Hurwitz finishes that thought by criticizing the democratic actions of Bergen County Democratic party protesters to a newspaper reporter.

"when the county committee meets" (0.00 / 0)
That's what SHE says.  Since when has Joe even wanted us to REGISTER a VOTE at a county committee meeting, never mind make that vote COUNT. He likes it when there is only one choice all the way down the ticket.  Before Senator Weinberg helped us - it used to be like the Old Soviet Union.  We had a vote all right  - but no choices.

The whole OBJECTION to the Executive meeting (a meeting which was called AFTER Joe acted unilaterally to send Dennis Oury on his Kamikazi mission and Senator Weinberg demanded the consent of the BCDO) was that only 50 members of the entire BCDO would be making that decision. A decision which would affect the State Legislative candidates in the entire state in a negative way. Perhaps the legislative candidates in other parts of the state should weigh in on this one.  They WILL be hurt if Joe gets his way.  The public is very sore about ethics - or lack of them in the NJ Democratic party lately.

Here's a guy - Joe Ferriero - who, by  regularly dissing the Governor's advice on this shows us every DAY that he is accountable to NO ONE.  (If I were the cynical type - I'd say it's almost like Good Cop - Bad Cop.  Corzine says he's for reform but Joe always gets his way and the NJ Dems get $$$)  And Ms. Hurwitz can stand there with a straight face and tell us we can VOTE on this.  I want a camera and the press in there at that election to look into the boxes before the votes are cast and when they are counted too.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

This is What Democracy Looks Like.... (0.00 / 0)
The fact that there were good Bergen County Democrats ready willing and able to demonstrate their concerns "on the street" is something that brings joy and pride to my heart.

Contrary to Oshrat Carmiel's characterization; the planned protest/rally wasn't

"...a potentially ugly intra-party clash Monday outside the party's Hackensack headquarters";
it was a beautiful politically potent manifestation of precisely what the popular public sentiment is on these issues of legalized bribery.

The fact that Ferrierro, once again, made a tactical retreat is proof positive of the potency of people power/democracy!

Kudos to Robert Gulack for taking the lead in yesterdays planned action outside the BCDO headquarters.

Hackensack Democratic Chairwoman Lynne Hurwitz displays a perverse take on "free speech" when she parrots Ferrierro's line on pay to play.....

"I believe that certain state laws have stripped and prevented citizens from supporting political candidates and their parties and, as such, preventing them from exercising their rights in our democracy,"

.....while also making the comment,

"The desire to bring it out on the street only tells me that they want a raucous confrontation and to embarrass the party."
.

So, in the eyes of the BCDO speaking our against legalized bribery is spun as disruptive/negative speech; while favoring the (de facto) corrupt status quo is portrayed a high and noble expression.

What a line of bull.  She should be applying for Tony Snow's job!

Gulack's tune is far more in harmony with NJ Democrats and, I dare say, the vast majority of NJ voters/residents in general...

"Gulack, who helped organize the protest, planned on bringing his guitar, and had penned a theme song for the event, to the tune of "When the Saints Go Marching In":

When the cash comes pouring in,

When the cash comes pouring in,

Those are the guys who'll get the contracts,

When the cash comes pouring in."

would stand by Ferriero.  No surprise there.  She just so happens to be just the kind of loyal flack we're talking about here.

As a County Employee - Deputy Chief of Staff, in fact, someone who would be involved in hiring folks at the County, she and her husband Howie,  Executive Director of the Northwest Utility Authority, together easily make 6 figures.  Not a gig anyone would throw away for a simple little thing like principle.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.
