Sadly, I think it is unlikely he will run. (0.00 / 0)
I think he realizes he can be every bit an effective force for change from the outside without having to go through the political mudslinging.

He won't run (0.00 / 0)
You're right, and it's more fun doing it his way.

In The Assault on Reason he lays out the case how our electoral system is flawed, so I think he knows better than to jump in until it's fixed...

...other = I'll likely be voting for Edwards in the NY primary.

As always (4.00 / 3)
Edwards.  The progressive/populist who can win in November.

Can we stop wtih Gore (4.00 / 1)
First, he's not running.

And two, his sudden fame as a progressive and all-around good guy stems from his post-electoral work. As Clinton's water carrier he was far from the high-end liberal he is portrayed as now. And as a candidate, he was at best ineffective and played to the center.

That said, his current incarnation makes him more interesting than most of the current field, but he is not running.

Did I mention he is not running?

how do you know? (0.00 / 0)
I have had similar complaints about Gore's past centrism and as well as his atrociously ineffective campaign in 2000, but my support for him stems from a belief that because of the damage to this country and world done by eight years of the Bush administration, the next President has to be exceptionally experienced and qualified for the job.

In my opinion, none of the front-runners are experienced or qualified enough and none of the second-tier candidates who are experienced and qualified, like Joe Biden and Bill Richardson, have a chance in hell of winning the nomination.

The only person who is experienced and qualified and could change the current electoral calculus is Al Gore.  As far as him not running goes, that might be true if Halloween comes and goes and he has not announced.  Until then, anything is possible.

It's too late. (0.00 / 0)
Like Gore, Wes Clark was a big 'buzz' candidate who joined the race in September '03. Most people say he would have done much better if he had joined earlier, been able to run in Iowa etc.

That cycle started much later than this one has.

Halloween is far too late. Gore's not in this race. It's over.

If... (0.00 / 0)
...Gore announces on November 1, there is no doubt in my mind that he would have a full slate of precinct captains, many of whom are currently committed to other candidates, in Iowa before Thanksgiving.

The Gore watch is going to get interesting after the Nobel Prize is awarded on October 12.  If Gore wins, the two weeks that follow will become very exciting.

Gore (4.00 / 1)
Has said he is not running -- and unlike Fred Thompson -- he's actually not acting like he plans to. In any case, talk to me about him when he changes his mind.

Bill Richardson and Joe Biden should be disqualified for being lousy centrists and conventional wisdom hacks, and not because they have no shot.

As for experience -- the most experienced man on the planet is Dick Cheney. Do I need to say more?

I want my bumper sticker! (4.00 / 1)
The one that says "Re-elect Al Gore."

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."  (Teddy Roosevelt)
