Where's the consistency Senator Allen?

by: Jason Springer

Fri Jul 27, 2007 at 06:45:11 PM EDT

So Senator Diane Allen is now questioning the Joint Legislative Ethics Panel over its dismissal of the complaint brought by everyone's favorite Mayor, Steve Lonegan against Senator Joe Coniglio because the Feds have informed Coniglio that he is a target of their investigation and in her letter, she says this...
It is difficult to make an informed decision without all the facts and even more difficult to know if we have all the relevant information we need.
Now while i will not defend the Ethics Panel's dismissal because I have no idea what information they had that I don't, I will say this:  I hope you proceed with this same thirst for information to rout out the corruption of the Burlington County Bridge Commission and State Chair Tom Wilson, the pension padding of freeholder Vince Farias and the no-show jobs of your own colleague just towns from you, Senator Martha Bark to name a few examples in your own back yard.

Senator Coniglio may turn out to be a deserving target, but not only have my state tax dollars been wasted, but my local tax dollars have been looted as well and I haven't seen you "seeking all the facts" and "getting all the information we need."  In the interest of consistency, please seek out all the relevant information so that we can make the most informed decision with all the facts on these situations as well.  Thank you.

Allen (0.00 / 0)
has no consistency. For so long, she's tried to be fool her constituents into thinking she's a consensus-seeking moderate. Well, the mask has slipped, Diane, and everyone has seen an ugly example of just how hackish you can be.

Great diary, njdem!

Nicely done (0.00 / 0)
Who would have thought that Diane Allen, who has been in absentia for so long, would crawl out of her rock to attack Coniglio and make a fuss about the Palmyra Nature Cove, wrongheadedly accusing Corzine of attempting to destroy that park?  This is the poltiics of opportunism at its worse and reveals that Sen. Allen is seeking any attention whatsoever to distract voters from her lackluster record. The political signs here are clear: She sees Rich Dennison in her rearview mirrors.

Question (3.00 / 1)

This is not a comment about Diane Allen, but rather, a question regarding the propriety of the news printed by the Star Ledger and now, the NYT, about the targeting of Joe Coniglio.

Putting aside for the moment whether the man is guilty or innocent, whether he will be indicted when the grand jury finishes its work, and if so, whether he will be convicted, the question is:

Was it proper, ethical or legal for Christie's office to inform the public that Coniglio is a target?  Or was it a Menendez type leak?

Speaking of which, why is Christie's office investigating the "Christmas Tree" issue?  Have any Federal laws been violated?  If anything,  is this not a state issue, to be taken up by the AG?

I hope someone with more time and knowledge can give me an answer.
