"Are you mad yet?" Needed to share this

by: Tom Wyka

Thu Jul 12, 2007 at 11:07:56 PM EDT

As my campaign gets back into gear, we decided to reach out to our online group to gauge interest at this early stage. (if you want to take part, follow this link

I wanted to share with you an email that came back and my response.  The subject line was "Are you mad yet?" ...

Tom Wyka :: "Are you mad yet?" Needed to share this
"I've been mad for 7 years now.

Since you got 0 support from your own party in your last run, why don't you run as an Independent this time?

John S
Parsippany, NJ"

And my response....

"John,

In my eyes, the Democratic Party is still the party of the people.  They stand for a fair shake for everyone.  The people of the Democratic Party never let me down, and they are still helping me - and you - today.

You may think I got "0" support from my  own party, but I will tell you - as a newcomer (and I am a relative newcomer) - I did open a lot of eyes, if not wallets, this time around.  True - I didn't get as much money - but I did get quite a few new folks energized about taking part in the process.  We energized a whole county organization that thought they couldn't win here, and generally - woke a lot of people up.

... And you're still paying attention  :-)  So don't stop.

Do you remember the Mets saying - "Ya gotta believe"?  Well  - we all have to believe.  And we can't stop.  We're going to have a heck of a mess to clean up in January '09.

Leave the Democrats?  I could've said the same about my country in '04 when it continued on a direction that I thought was deplorable.  But that's why I got involved in the process and decided not to jump ship.  So were my thoughts on the country ... and so too are my thoughts on the party.  Howard Dean says he believes in taking the message to every corner of the country - no matter how red.  That goes the same for my own backyard.

I noticed you're from Parsippany (like me).  We're having a candidates night later this month.  Would you come down?  We could use the help of people with good hearts as much as we can get.  7/25 at the Library 7 pm.

Hope to talk to you again.

Tom"

==================

John's response...
"See you there with as many as I can bring!"

==================

I hope every candidate understands that regardless of odds - every campaign is not just about the candidate themselves, but the ideals they stand for that so very much need an articulate voice to keep the positive message at the public's ear, appealing to their hearts and best aspirations.

Like I said - please follow this link if you would like to participate and send ideas for my next campaign.

Thanks,
Tom Wyka

keep fighting (4.00 / 1)
Keep fighting the good fight, Tom. We need to take control of our party, not abandon it because we may not agree 100% with every platform. As Wil Rogers said, "I don't belong to any organized party. I'm a Democrat."

I'm mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore (0.00 / 0)

As Howard Dean said (0.00 / 0)
And I paraphrase
One voter, one precinct, one district at a time. We will take back out country.
Thank Zeus I'm a Democrat.

Restore democracy and the Constitution for which it stands.
