Morris DFA/PDA Holiday Party

(It's nice to hear about what different groups are doing around the state. Feel free to share what's happening in your neck of the woods in the diaries. - promoted by jmelli)

Greetings from the blue man ( and woman) group in the heart of Morris.  We had our Democracy for America/Progressive Democrats of America Holiday party in Morristown last week and had 25 people attend.  In addition to the usual good cheer, fine wine and Bush bashing, it was agreed that we would be working on 3 issues in 2006:  1) the war in Iraq  2) campaign and election reform and 3) labor issues and a minimum wage increase nationwide.  Additionally, we are going to hold Frelinghuysen accountable for recent votes to 1) cut student loans and food stamps  2) say torture is ok  and 3) to reauthorize the patriot act and make it permanent.  Finally, we took a poll and the overwhelming consensus was to encourage a Senate primary and then ultimately back the winner against Kean Jr.  The top person at our holiday party was Rush Holt among the 25 people in attendance, although Pallone had some support, and Menendez as well

That all sounds cool! (0.00 / 0)
Any idea who we're going to run against Merkt & Carroll in 2007?  I was thinking we should approach someone from Morristown -- say Tim Dougherty.

2007 Races (0.00 / 0)
Certainly Tim Dougherty of Morristown would have strong name recognition to run against Carroll and Merkt in 2007.  Others who might be interested include Thom Jackson who ran this year (an African American Lawyer from the area) and Dana Wefer a 23 year old law school student who got 41% Countywide for Freeholder.  Also Tom Zelante from Morris Township a former Democratic Chair is a possibility.
Blair MacInnes, whose ran against Bucco 4 years ago is a possibility and has the advantage of being able to put her own money in.  Democrats should be able to field a strong slate in the 25th in 2007

don't forget Janice Schindler (0.00 / 0)
she ran a good race this year.

District 25 (0.00 / 0)
Janice is a great woman who fought hard as well this past year.  Unfortunately she was underfunded.  Maybe we can get that public funding trial balloon to meander its way into Morris County for our legislative races in 07.  Also dont forget the Senate is up too which means Tony Buttabucco will need a strong opponent.
