Both should drop out of their respective party's primary race and run an independent fusion campaign in the general election.

Imagine a general election season with the following  candidates (P/VP).

(D) Hillary Clinton/Bill Richardson
(R) Rudy Giuliani/Fred Thompson
(I) Mike Bloomberg/Chuck Hagel
(I) Al Gore/Barack Obama
(I) John McCain/Joe Lieberman
(I) Dennis Kucinich/Ron Paul (or vice versa)
(I) Ralph Nader/Cynthia McKinney

Add instant runoff voting (IRV) to the mix and we might actually be able to remove our democracy from life support.
