Republican Draft Al Effort Appears to Fail

by: huntsu

Sun Jun 17, 2007 at 08:20:14 AM EDT

Early last month PoliticsNJ noted that Red Generation founder and general crooner about town Dino P. Crocetti founded an effort to draft Al Leiter to run for Senate against Frank Lautenberg.

We're not entirely sure why Wally Edge decided to promote this particular Draft Al project.  The effort is, apparently, simply a blog (on Blogger) of four posts in four months and a new MySpace page with a whopping 10 friends.  Only one of those friends is a human being.

The Draft Leiter effort is now facing a bigger problem: On yesterday's Mets-Yankees pregame show on WFAN radio, Joe Benigno specifically asked the former pitcher if he would be running for political office anytime soon.  Here's a fairly accurate transcription of what Leiter said:

No way.  I'm not willing to do the things that politicians have to do to get elected.  I talk with Mayor Bloomberg, who's a friend of mine, and there's no way I want to do the things he has to do to get elected.

The Democratic Draft Al effort at least has a reluctant but listening candidate -- the Republican Draft Al effort has a candidate that wants nothing to do with them.

UPDATE: Terrible error: Dino didn't found Red Generation, and it's now called Red Jersey.  Since I don't bother to read their site I didn't know the latter, and the former doesn't really matter all that much since he posts a lot there.

Caricature of Itself (4.00 / 3)
Is it just me or does RedGeneration/Jersey read like some bad version of what we would create as a joke for a mean-spirited, silly, right-wing kooky counterpoint to Blue Jersey?

The ramblings on RedGeneration/Jersey/Name of the Week almost seems like something out of "The Onion"

And they could have come up with an original name (0.00 / 0)
I mean, Red Generation was at least somewhat original, but making the name Red Jersey sounds like a Bizarro version of us.  It also makes no sense, really.  At least Blue rhymes with New in the name.

Possible meanings for Red Jersey:

1) Cincinnati baseball fan;
2) Detroit hockey fan;
3) Communist shirt sellers;
4) A spray-painted cow?

They're not quitters.

Thank You (0.00 / 0)
I just want to say thank you for recognizing my efforts. I appreciate it as it motivates me a great deal.

Just remember that it's June 2007 and that there's plenty of time for Al to reconsider.

I will continue with my attempts to draft Al as I am not a quitter.

Once again, thank you.

Respectfully Yours,
Dino P. Crocetti

P.S., Happy Father's Day to any and all Fathers out there whether they be conservative or liberal.

We recognized it, all right ... (0.00 / 0)
Kind of like recognizing that smell of a skunk hit on the side of the road from a mile away, then finally seeing it as you pass on by.

Not for nothing, I'm a Mets fan!
