Empowerment Over Entitlement In The 21st

( - promoted by njdem)

Now that the Primary Season is over, it's time for us all to start focusing on what's really important -- turning some more legislative seats blue this November.  And I just wanted to let you all know that I'm focused like a laser-beam on beating Tom Kean Jr. to become the 21st District's next State Senator.

But to do this, simply put, I need your help.  Over the next five months, I hope I can count on the Blue Jersey community's support and counsel.  So I invite you all to check out my new website to learn more about my campaign and how you can get involved.

I know some here have asked why Democrats like myself think we can take on entrenched, well-funded Republican challengers in red areas and win.  It's a fair question, and one I'd like to answer.

Gina Genovese :: Empowerment Over Entitlement In The 21st
Most voters in the 21st District know me from a quarter-century of working with their families and teaching their children at Gina's Tennis World in Berkeley Heights.  As a small business owner, I created a place where people congregate, socialize and develop self-confidence and self-esteem.

In 2005, I shocked the political establishment when my town's Republican majority unanimously selected me to become the first Democratic mayor in the history of Long Hill.  As Mayor, I fought hard to build a better sense of community, acknowledge the contributions of individuals and improve the quality of life for all residents.

I believe in empowering people.  And this November's election is going to be just about that -- empowerment, not entitlement.  In my life, I've worked hard to build a business -- and a reputation -- based on empowering my students.  I will carry this same philosophy with me to the state legislature.

In Tom Kean Jr., I'm facing a deep-pocketed incumbent.  So if you could please consider investing in my campaign by donating now, it would really help a lot.  Even if you can only give a few dollars, it will go a long way towards bringing us closer to victory on Election Day.  And if you want to help out my campaign before then, you can always sign-up to volunteer, as well.

As I've said all along, last November we realized the importance of whom we send to Washington.  This November, it's equally important whom we send to Trenton.  We need fresh ideas and new representation down in our state legislature.  I'm running to bring Meaningful Reform, Genuine Results and Real Leadership to the 21st District.  And I have a proven track-record of building bridges and creating an atmosphere of cooperation.

For us to make victory a reality, we need to build an early base of support well in advance of Election Day.  Please help me spread the word about this campaign far and wide.  And please consider contributing to my campaign.

Again, I invite you to check out my website to learn more about how, together, we can build a future that will bring out the best in our great state.  And be sure to keep checking back, as we update the site as our campaign grows.

Thank you all for your support.

It will be curious to see (0.00 / 0)
if Tommy Boy Junior Kean brings in his good buddies Dick Cheney and Karl Rove to raise money for him. Hang Bush policies around his neck like a rotting albatross.

Restore democracy and the Constitution for which it stands.

Not only Bush policies (0.00 / 0)
but his serial flip-flopping, too.

Given how hard Junior tried to bring state issues into the Senate campaign last year, it would be deliciously ironic if Gina was able to beat him by federalizing the race to some degree.

Gina is going to win (0.00 / 0)
I'm pretty realistic about who I think is going to win and who I don't. And I believe that Gina is going to give one hell of a victory speech on November 6th.

For a long time, the GOP has taken the 21st for granted. They've done so at their own peril. With the demographics of the district's towns constantly changing, the 21st isn't nearly as red as some of the other districts being eyed up by Democrats this year. Couple that with Tom Kean jr being severely hobbled after last year's US Senate race and Gina's impressive biography, which has already brought her to positions few Democrats could have attained in the district, and I think it's a recipe for success.

I'm really proud to be working for Gina this year, and I hope that many of you decide to join us as volunteers both online and off, spreading the word about Gina, making calls and knocking on doors, and investing in her campaign. It's going to take a united effort to win, but with your help, we're going to do it.

coach gina (0.00 / 0)

i just learned that one of my best friends Gene (and his twin brother Joe) were pupils at Gina's tennis academy during the summers of his youth.

the conversation went a little something like this:

Jay:  Damn Gene you really beat the shit out of me the other day.  Where did you learn that evil drop shot?

Gene:  I used to hit the drop shot a lot when i was little and they are really effective against an opponent like you with questionable footwork skills.  Gina taught it to me.  Gina Genovese.  she became mayor.  Do you know her?

Jay:  (incredulously)  Don't you know who i used to be?!? Are you kidding me? there is a framed pic of me and her on my wall!!  I am a blogger for Blue Jersey OF COURSE I KNOW GINA!

~~~~
i also learned that a bum knee (which forced Gina off the pro tour) led her to share her passion for tennis by teching the game to a new generation of kids.  i find that personal slice of gina's story to be so intriguing.
 the more i learn  about Gina Genovese, the more i like.  a lot.  i live out of her distict, but i am willing to commit whatever i could to help Gina make that vistory speech SCott was alluding to earlier.
I get fired up JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!!
(and gina, if you're reading this, i think i need some footwork drills.  any ideas?)
Do you really know Gina the Politician? (0.00 / 1)
Don't be blinded by her abilties as a tennis coach- My children are students there and she is one of the finest in the area. However, she has been involved in so many dirty political tricks in Long HIll, that the vast majority of the township of Long Hill was astonished that she had the balls to run against Kean. She's done absolutely nothing in Long Hill except hold a town prayer service and pat herself on the back for her great abiltiy to get a broken down firetruck donated back to the township by a local builder/developer who at the same time was purchasing blocks of land in entrance of the great swamp(probably promised by Gina that he could put his 3 story condos there) Please look into her past before you put $ into her campaign. There are other progressives who could use the money who won't be slaughtered by the media, when all of the stories come out!
if it's like you say..... (0.00 / 0)
...then why don't you find another tennis coach?
you're either a liar or a shitty parent.
