Bob Ingle's Corzine Hate Blinds Him To Truth

by: huntsu

Sun May 13, 2007 at 06:49:25 PM EDT

Bob Ingle wrote another piece slamming NJ Governor Jon Corzine for, well, nothing.  And, of course, Ingle also decided to make incendiary points that have little or no bearing on reality, but sound absolutely horrible.

How about this one, where Ingle accused the Governor of New Jersey of caring more about media corporations outside the state instead of our great New Jersey-owned media.

Drumthwacket's 15-minute mini news events were absent electronic media like 101.5 FM radio newsman Kevin McArdle. That's because NBC's "Today" show wouldn't allow the governor to talk to Matt Lauer unless the Corzine people agreed to delay all other electronic media.

Corzine let an out-of-state corporation make his decisions to the detriment of N.J. media.

We'll leave aside the fact that Bob Ingle's checks don't come from the Asbury Park Press or the Home News Tribune, but from the Gannett, an "out-of-state corporation" that owns quite a few newspapers.

But how about the fact that Ingle is standing up for the great 101.5 (home of the Jersey Guys show Ingle appears on every Friday) as if it were " N.J. media" and NBC - which broadcasts to all of NJ, too -- is not.

New Jersey 101.5, also known as WKXW (FM), is owned by Millennium Radio Group, LLC.  According to a press release from June 6, 2001, Millennium is owned by both UBS Capital Americas and Mercury Capital Partners, neither of which is owned or operated out of New Jersey.

So Ingle is slamming the Governor for dealing with an out of state media corporation that broadcasts to New Jersey and the rest of the country instead of dealing with an out of state media corporation that broadcasts only to New Jersey.

If that strikes you as a bit of a stupid stretch, then you are about spot on and get 50 points.  Points are, of course, worth nothing but you can still use them to keep score if you want.

huntsu :: Bob Ingle's Corzine Hate Blinds Him To Truth
That's not the only stupidity on the piece.  Ingle starts out by attacking the Governor for keeping his first press availability to 15 minutes after coming home from a car accident that almost killed him and broke more than two dozen bones.  The accusation is that, as opposed to keeping these short so he can rest, the Governor is hiding from questions about his former relationship with Carla Katz.

That's almost ridiculously stupid, not only because anyone who has massive physical damage will have short press conferences, but also because the Governor would probably gleefully answer Katz questions after he was exonerated earlier in the week by his ethics committee.

Ingle covers that up by saying:

The report says Corzine did nothing wrong. But it also suggests new rules. If he did nothing wrong, what is the need for new rules?

Bob Ingle is the Trenton Bureau chief for Gannett, an out of state corporation.  Anyone who is a basic political reporter knows that even in cases where no ethics violations committees usually suggest changes that will avoid the appearance of impropriety.  The issue is not that Corzine and Katz did anything wrong, but that the appearance was there.

Ingle is the Bureau chief, and professes not to understand this simple fact of ethics boards.  For most columnists, that would lead me to think he was either incompetent or a fabricator.

For Ingle, I suspect it is simply Corzine hate rearing it's ugly head again.

ARE THEY FROM NJ (0.00 / 0)
I like how Bob goes on a 101.5 and beats on the Governor talking to NY media. Ah last I checked the two clowns you chat with are not from New Jersey.

Not NY, Not Philadelphia, Not New Jersey..oh ok so we live close to New Jersey. Great job on your reporting BOB!

Don't mean to be an apologizer...but I think Ingle bashes whoever happens to be in power at the time.  Doesn't matter if its a Donkey or an Elephant. While the title of this post makes one want to read what's in it, I don't believe its completely true.

Like Chris Christie? (0.00 / 0)
Ingle has his favorites, and treats them with kid gloves.

is that's Ingle's piece is so badly written.  He sounds like a whiney drunk in a 2 bit bar, only the stuff was printed an MSM newspaper.

I went back to the link posted here yesterday to see if the article/blog was as nonsensical as I thought.  I got  "Invalid Story Key."  Did they pull it?

I tried google for APP and Ingle - still no go, although I got to his blog.   Whether one agrees with them or not, his other entries are better written.  Like having subjects and verbs.  I didn't see any R's being bashed, though.

Well, maybe he had a deadline or something.

It's there... (0.00 / 0)
on the APP site, although they surely don't make it easy to find. (There's a copy-and-paste URL - no hotlink - for Ingle's columns, in the "About Me" section of his blog.)

Direct link to the nasty tantrum under discussion is: http://www.app.com/a...

Thanks lilibart (0.00 / 0)
Well, I was wrong.  Ingle did write in sentences.  I'm not as mad as huntsu, but the piece was kind of silly.

And I was wrong again. Ingle did go after Christie (R) for not going after Harvey (D) and Rabner(D).

Can anyone provide a link to the stories about BPU ans Angelo Prisco?

I don't know if these stories have legs, but I do know many cases are settled on the eve of trial, after the jury is selected.  In fact, they are settled during trials, depending upon how good/bad the testimony is and what evidence is allowed in.

In the new link to the story via lilybart, the APP story no longer is appended with its "story chat" forum that I think had been on it originally.

Or am I imagining it?  I seem to remember being surprised at that forum because some posters took Ingle to task.  APP generally whips up a radical anti-Corzine hysteria.

Ingle's take on Christie's version of Prisco events isn't quite in sync with what originally was reported in the APP, either.  My impression there is he's talking out of school, especially since he's so Johnny-come-lately with his spin on it.  As a matter of journalistic ethics, he really should tell readers when he is reporting things he didn't hear first-hand without attribution to his source.
