Several sources indicate that the truce brokered last week between Loretta Weinberg and Bergen County Democratic chairman Joe Ferriero in the 37th legislative district may be in jeopardy. The BCDO line apparently is running in the second column with no legislative candidates at the top, while Loretta Weinberg, Valerie Vainieri Huttle and Gordon Johnson remain on the Real Bergen Democrats line, which will be in the first column.

Busy Day for Angelo Genova (0.00 / 0)

Well like my man howie would say no deal (0.00 / 0)
yes, thats right.  Now the little sheriff with the big head is all alone with no one to play with. Looks like the whole BCDO line is out for the count.  We will have a new sheriff and free holders lol. How funny, the first name picked was Allen Gailes for sheriff. Well sheriff Gailes good luck, hope you do a better job then fomer sheriff Leo LOL. Some one should  have given Ferriero a highchair befor he sat at the table with  grown ups. Well done Real Bergen Dems nothing like giving the BCDO a taste of thier medicine.

don't jump to conclusions (0.00 / 0)
this is probably a paperwork issue.  do you think Senator Weinberg will really spend money on this primary against Jimmy Carroll, Liz Calabrese, Tommy Padilla and Leo McGuire?

Makes sense (0.00 / 0)
While Wildes, et al, can withdraw from the race, I don't think Ferriero can simply decide to give the party line to whomever he chooses after the convention. Correct me if I'm wrong. I never assumed that the truce meant that Weinberg / Johnson / Huttle would get the party line -- merely that they would run unopposed.

From Weinberg's standpoint, running on the party line or unopposed is basically the same thing. However, for the BCDO candidates, it may cause some problems. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

If Real Bergen Dems had every slot filled, there's a good chance that people would vote straight down the line. Expect BCDO to try to pressure those in column 1 to drop out or have their petitions disqualified. Expect those in column 1 to resist, as they were not part of this deal.

who's the campaign mgr for the county candidates? (0.00 / 0)
If you've talked to Loretta for more than 15 min's (and maybe even if you haven't), you've probably heard her say 'know the rules.'  She likes to cite the one about who controls the line.  It's whoever is the campaign mgr for the county candidates.  Even Hillary, Corzine, etc. have to, technically ask the county candidates' campaign mgr. for permission to be on the line.  Of course, the boss controls who the mgr. is, but I don't know enough of the Bergen ins and outs (in spite of the reading I've been doing here on this) to be able to venture anything more than that.

I can tell you that our freeholder director was appointed campaign manager for our county candidates last month, that's one of the few things you can read under press releases at the newly re-organized Mdlsx party org. website

Pathetic cast of candidates. (0.00 / 1)
The sad fact here is that if Weinberg went nuclear and filed a complete county slate as well as legislative candidates in 36 & 38, she would have won.

Ferriero and his his castaway of candidates don't have a clue how to run a successful primary campaign. There isn't a single individual in the BCDO camp that can walk and chew gum much less direct a countywide primary strategy.

These incumbents are weak. Carroll just survived last year. Padilla already has lost and has no base of support. Maguire has no base and is another Ferriero unknown.

With Coniglio's problems and an extremely weak county ticket, this was a primary challenge worth mounting.

It would have been nasty, expensive and rough. But Weinberg would have come out of it with three senators, not one and a foothold on the freeholder board and an ally in the new sheriff.

Ferriero would have been crippled and his fate sealed.

Now because they brokered a fractured deal, the BCDO will pick-off these Real Democrats down ballot.

It's amazing just how weak these people really are, yet they have Weinberg and the equally pathetic GOP totally fooled.

doesn't matter (0.00 / 0)
Money isn't the issue now.  The 'Real Bergen Democrats' have Loretta at the top of their ticket.  The BCDO candidates don't have anyone at the top.  In the thirty-seventh, people are going to go in and vote party line, Loretta and down.  I don't think that will affect the sheriff or freeholder races, but it will definitely make a difference in towns like Bergenfield and Englewood.

Come on if the 37th comes out strong for sheriff and freeholder (0.00 / 0)
they will win  you cant win a county race without the 37th  its just plain numbers.

[ Parent ]
did you forget (0.00 / 0)
The real bergen dems are in more than just the 37th its a county wide thing its over. And the are on the line in alot of local town lines with the sheriff and freeholders

[ Parent ]
didn't forget (0.00 / 0)
Nowhere else in the county do the 'Real Bergen Democrats' have incumbent legislators at the top of their ticket.  No coattails, no wins.  That's my prediction.  I may be wrong, though.  What percent of Democrats' votes in Bergen come from the thirty-seventh?

[ Parent ]
wrong my friend (0.00 / 0)
see this is more than just the 37th this is about a sheriff who has made more enemies than cancer. This man has his whole department's moral in the gutter he is a one man show who only cares about himself not the officers or the people of bergen county and thats why he will loose.

[ Parent ]
I almost forgot (0.00 / 0)
The BCDO  backed johnson and the crew in public which means that not only will real bergen dems but also bcdo dems in the 37th will vote down the line and thats just to many votes to come back from on a county race its a wash after that the freeholders an the sheriff would have to win the rest of the county all  of the votes which is not possiable unless  what are the chances that the real bergen dems will not get a percent of the rest of the county slim to none so thats why they will take the county race. see leo and his crew have no coatials on any line.

[ Parent ]
yes she will (0.00 / 0)
Why not make sure that her whole line wins so they can make bergen county a better not bitter place to work and live. she can spend a third of what she would have to sweep sounds like a sale to me.

your crazy (0.00 / 0)
The Real Bergen Dems are going to win down the line County, local and State the fat lady is at the mic. Can you hear the music LOL.

Hee Hee ..... (4.00 / 1)
If true, this is a VERY interesting development.  I can't confirm or deny the rumors. I am sure the Weinberg team will let Blue Jersey know what the Real story is as soon as they can.

As far as I know, we are still running our Tenafly candidates on the Real Bergen Dems line simply because that is how we registered our candidates.

Last week's "truce" was simply Joe Ferriero realizing his candidates could not win the Primary.  His gold currency of bestowing the BCDO line to a candidate was worthless compared to the value of a stellar, popular, and shall I say, brilliant, incumbent Senator.  Joe lost last week.  Loretta simply let him.  Wildes withdrew.  Loretta simply let him.  Ken Zisa and Cid Wilson withdrew.  Loretta simply let them.

We challenged them and they said "uncle".  Simple.  Saying Loretta let anyone down is just silly talk.  Ferriero let down his candidates.  Candidates chosen by the BCDO to be on the BCDO line.

Like I said.  Stay tuned.  This story is still unfolding.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

confusing (0.00 / 0)
Let me see if I understand.  Loretta and Joe cut a deal for Wilds, Zisa and Wilson to drop off the BCDO line so Weinberg, Huttle and Johnson could move over.  That would have left the rest of the 'Real Bergen Democrats' facing BCDO candidates with Loretta at the top of the BCDO ticket.  But once Wilds, Zisa and Wilson were legally off the ballot, Loretta backed out of the deal and is staying at the top of her original ticket with no opposition on the BCDO line?

This is confusing (0.00 / 0)
I don't think Loretta backed out of anything. From what I undertand there is a legal issue with switching over to the BCDO line which is causing some trouble.

Now my friends, I am opposed to the system of society in which we live today, not because I lack the natural equipment to do for myself but because I am not satisfied to make myself comfortable knowing that there are thousands of my fellow men who suffer

No Deal (4.00 / 1)
Loretta didn't "cut a deal".  Wildes, Zisa and Wilson WITHDREW their ticket from the primary.  I don't know how many times I can say this.  They WITHDREW.  THEY WITHDREW, THEY withdrew.  Loretta did not have to do a darn thing. Not even lift her little pinky.  Period.  Joe conceded publicly to make Corzine happy and not to have a primary battle during Presidential campaigning by Hillary.

Loretta didn't make a deal.  Loretta crushed the competition.  WILDES, ZISA and WILSON WITHDREW because they knew it was a waste of money and time because THEY would LOSE in the primary.  Loretta has an entire slate of Real Bergen Dems she is already on a line with.  Real Bergen Dems got column 1.

Think about it.  Really think about it.  Loretta will win no matter WHERE on the ballot she is.  She was nice enough to stop by the BCDO HQ last week to wish Wildes, Zisa and Wilson well in their new careers whatever they might be and pose for one photo op for Wildes' ego wall.  The WHOLE point of this little exercise in Democracy was about keeping her incumbent District 37 team together.  Loretta won, and in so doing took a pin to Ferriero's overinflated but fragile ego.

We have spent entire weeks remarking on how silly Wildes photo collection is because a picture does not mean you are best buddies with someone, and now you are reading way more into ONE photograph of Loretta, Joe, and Michael than it merits.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

Thanks for the Official Spin (0.00 / 0)
But from the buttkissing that was going on at the BCDO headquarters ('family'?, 'Cinderella'?, 'marriage'?, yuck!), some of us came to a far different conclusion.  Loretta should never have played nice with those snakes.  We hope the BCDO line does get screwed and Loretta stays on the Real Bergen Dems line.  That's where she belongs.

[ Parent ]
Buttkissing? (0.00 / 0)
Loretta only went to the ball because Jon Corzine invited her nicely.  The BCDO boys made a pass at her but she didn't leave with Joe.  He was acting like Prince Charming, but lets see what he turns back into at the stroke of Midnite.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

Most Democrats hate the BCDO (0.00 / 1)
I have never seen a party organization so despised by the party's rank & file.

Despite all of Ferriero's success, the regular Democrat seems to hate him and the collection of idiots he has surrounded himself with.

This is a party that will buy off Republican support with patronage and jobs while ignoring hard working Democrats and Democrats who've been loyal to the party for decades in the worst of times.

Ferriero has loaded the county payroll with dozens of Republicans from the prior administration while continuing to fill key patronage appointments with even more Republicans.

This is why he dropped out of the primary. He has no base of support with party regulars. This is the one chance they get in a secret ballot to stick it to this guy and his cronies.

The way to beat Ferriero for chairman is easy. Find someone with a heart beat, have a machine ballot and they will come out of the woodwork to beat him.

He knows that.

The ice is melting under his feet...

A new job for Joe? (0.00 / 0)
Perhaps what would make the most sense would be for Joe to become chair of the BCRO. It's the kind of uphill battle that might be a challenge for him.

Maybe (0.00 / 0)
Joe and Leo can open up a stater company becuase by the end is this show they will both need a job any takers
