Republicans attack Corzine - a tasteless joke?

by: Moderate Minded

( - promoted by njdem)

While Governor Corzine lay in a hospital bed hooked up to a ventilator - going through multiple surgeries - family and friends holding their breath, praying for a speedy recovery, the Atlantic County GOP Chairman was busy cracking tasteless jokes about him.

In what can only be described as pitiful and disgusting, here's what Atlantic County Republican Party chairman, and Rush Limbaugh worshipper, Keith Davis wrote about Corzine (what he calls a joke): Link:

Laugh a little

Five Surgeons from big cities are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on.

The first surgeon, from New York, says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."

The second, from Chicago, responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded."

The third surgeon, from Dallas, says, "No, I really think librarians are the best, everything inside them is in alphabetical order."

The fourth surgeon, from Los Angeles chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers...those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over.

But the fifth surgeon, from Cooper Hospital in Camden shut them all up when he observed: "You're all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. No guts, no heart, no brains and no spine, and the head and the buttocks are interchangeable."

Get well soon Guv!

Update [Juan]: Atlantic County Democratic chairman Ron Ruff issued a statement in response which is below the fold.
Moderate Minded :: Republicans attack Corzine - a tasteless joke?
...
"On behalf of all Atlantic County Democrats, I want to extend our thoughts and prayers to Governor Jon Corzine and his family. We wish him a safe and speedy recovery," said Democratic Party Chairman Ron Ruff.

"Rather than simply expressing his best wishes to the governor,  I was appalled to learn that Keith Davis, the Atlantic County Republican chairman, used his blog to joke about the serious injuries suffered by Gov. Corzine in Thursday night's car accident.

"To say that his message was in poor taste is an understatement. What would possess someone to even think about circulating a joke about the governor while he is still undergoing major surgery and is breathing with the help of a ventilator and faces months of painful rehabilitation.

"Politics is a very competitive and sometimes harsh business. But there are times when political adversaries step back and civility and simple human decency take over. With Gov. Corzine lying critically injured in a hospital, this is such a time. On behalf of Atlantic County Democrats, I would hope that Mr. Davis show Gov. Corzine and his family the respect they deserve and withdraw his tasteless joke.

I don't care if you call it a joke or not - but to show disrespect to Corzine and his family at such a trying time is irresponsible.  The Republican party should call on this guy to apologize for his shameful jokes.

It rubs me the wrong way because - ironically, Corzine was headed to a meeting with Imus and Rutgers team when he got into the unfortunate accident.  And it was Imus hateful remarks that got him into the situation he was in.

Now the GOP chairman is inciting pain through his malicious comments - there's a time for jokes. This isn't one of them.

Tastless joke (0.00 / 0)
Of course, Keith Davis is only following the sterling example of the conservative punditry--they seem to think themselves terribly clever and cutting edge when they make these jokes.

Of course, it really pleases them--that's what it means. If that isn't what it means, then Davis should retract that joke.

What else does one expect from the party that champions the likes of Limbaugh and Coulter? I guess he doesn't mind being filth like them.

It is tasteless ... (0.00 / 0)
and shows bad judgment, but I will bet his intent was positive.

I think he was looking to show no hard feelings while the Governor is in the hospital, and did so in an idiotic, moronic, stuperific, dumbass way.

Huh? (0.00 / 0)
Showing no hard feelings?

No matter how you slice up that "joke," it shows hard feelings.

It's capitalizing on tragedy to undermine a DemocRAT leader, because that D is all the party of hate needs to deem someone subhuman.

Maybe if it ended with, "Too bad we never got the chance to operate on Christie Whitman to transplant her brain before she sunk the state's pension system into debt," I could buy the "no hard feelings" theory, but we all know his base wouldn't find that amusing.

I'm not wild about everything Corzine does, but I've never seen anything like the orchestrated and unrelenting crucifixion machine set in motion the day he announced he'd run for governor.

I didn't say he did it well (0.00 / 0)
He didn't mention parties, he mentioned politicians -- which includes Davis.

positivity? (0.00 / 0)
Seems to me that Davis employs this sort of mean-spirited, disrepectful humor to rally the Republicans.

Recall Craig Carton's remarks about the Acting Governor's wife a couple of years ago, Limbaugh's smear of Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's Disease, Coulter's smear of Rep. Max Cleland.

This is who they are. This is what they do: they are the party of hatred. They will say anything, no matter how much of an affront to human decency, in order to characterize Democrats as something less than humans deserving of human regard. That's classic propaganda technique. It's also one of the reasons that some people often wind up seeing what staggering hypocrites they are, but not in the mainstream dailies most of the time--the 10-point headlines are generally reserved for Democrats.

Just remember--they spent lots of time bloviating about how we must respect the President, but they showed no such respect for that office when Clinton occupied it.

Unsuccessful surgery (0.00 / 0)
After six hours of surgery, a spokesman for the Atlantic County Hospital for Mental Diseases announced that doctors were unsuccessful in removing Keith Davis' foot from his mouth.

Get well soon, Chairman.

Now THAT was funny. n/t (0.00 / 0)

One Vote. Yours. It really does matter.

In the original joke (0.00 / 0)
the fifth surgeon was from Washington DC, & the word "politicians" was "Republicans."

Tasteless joke and (0.00 / 0)
Republican are synonymous. Also included are: mendacious, prevaricating, duplicitous, corrupt, butt plug and rubber.
For instance, Tom Douchebag is a buttplug Republican would be redundant.

Restore democracy and the Constitution for which it stands.
