Van Drew-Asselta... wow (4.00 / 1)
This would easily be the most fascinating race of the cycle.  Van Drew is very strong in Cape May, where he is approaching Bill Hughes-level popularity.  Asselta is a labor Republican from Vineland, the traditional Democratic stronghold in the district.

Cape May has the highest percentage of registered Republican voters in the state, but Cape May Republicans will cross party lines a lot more than their Sussex, Warren and Morris County counterparts.  In his 1992 race against Frank LoBiondo, Representative Bill Hughes actually ran stronger in Cape May then he did in the rest of the 2nd district.

Van Drew could actually carry Cape May County but lose the Cumberland County part of the district.

Asselta could switch parties to avoid this fight.

This would be a subtraction (4.00 / 2)
The worst thing about this is that one of them would lose.

Both are fantastic Labor candidates and both have worked very hard for their districts.

I think that Asselta is more " Democrat" than many Democrats. What a great idea if he would switch parties to avoid this battle. After all he might be the last Republican standing in the lower 5 counties after Whelan wins.

A Senate contest would be a loss for Labor.

"You know what? You want to write a story that says I fought for Trinitas Hospital, Boys and Girls Club and Hope Hospice? Fine. I never did a thing wrong there,"

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

embarrassing day to be from HP (0.00 / 0)

When I was at the CAWP conference a few weekends ago, Meryl Frank was on a panel with Mildred Crump from Newark.  Mildred Crump listed the three things they (by which she probably meant press more than general public, I'm not quite sure) care about are:  hair, hemlines and history.  Who knew that not two weeks later Meryl Frank would end up filing police charges that Laurel Kornfeld was copying her hairstyle and dress?  Maybe I should move to Englewood until the hair extension debate is over.
