This is what she said: We don't believe in that evolution stuff

This is video I shot of the Kearny BOE meeting monday evening.
I've been following this Kearny story about the history teacher in Kearny preaching in class, one of the teachers students starts the video, she says "we dont believe in the big bang theory, we dont believe in that evolution stuff".

Oh... kay....

To borrow a line from Warner Wolf, lets go to the video tape....

Broadband, good quality, this can be played on a large screen.

"This Republican Party of Lincoln has become a party of theocracy."

My prior diary @ bluejersey covered the story of Kearny NJ, High School student Matt LaCLair recording his history teachers Dominionist sermon during the first week of school back in Spetmeber '06. In a meeting with the Principal, David Paszkiewicz, the teacher, denied making the statements Matt had accused him of, Matt then produced audio CD's for all concerned. Later the teacher denied what happened at that meeting, only to have another audio recording released, showing the teacher lied, twice. More recently a few letters to the local paper claimed that David Paszkiewicz had been proselytizing in public School for years. I found one here and another here

How did it come to this? And what is the solution?
Because if they are in the schools in New Jersey, a fairly blue state, they are EVERYWHERE.

James Dobson:

"Chidren are the prize to the winners in the great second civil war. Those that control what young people are taught and what they experience-what they see, hear, think and believe - will determine the future course of the nation."

Children At Risk: The Battle for the Hearts and Minds of Our Kids, Word Publishing, 1990, p. 35.

I have to ask, if there was a guy walking around your town saying

Chidren are the prize to the winners

Wouldn't you be nervous? Well this has been going on for over 20 years. And if you aren't nervous you ought to be, in fact you ought to be scared. You should be scared for you kids, the kids next door, every damn kid on the planet.
Meanwwhile back in NJ, the LaClairs have filed court papers reserving the right to sue at a later date, pro forma stuff.

Roger Outfoxes The Faulty Fundamenalists! (0.00 / 0)
The story is told in the pained facial expressions and body language of the squirming members of the Kearny Board of Education as they were confronted with just a wee bit of truth.

In that forum, they had the power to courteously allow an opposing viewpoint 30 seconds more to complete a prepared presentation; or to silence that expression.  They chose the easy way out.

In a court of law they will not have that option.

It is clear that this Board is as intransigent in protecting this abusive teacher as George Bush is intransigent in maintaining his abusive "course" in Iraq.  These public officials should be ashamed of themselves.

Fortunately, we still have a smidgen of democracy remainingy and there will be a school board election next year.

Nick, isn't there a school board election this year too?  This year election day is April 17th.  In many places, the local League of Women Voters or some other such group runs candidate forums--does anything like that happen in Kearny?  Do you know if anybody up there has interviewed the candidates and is doing anything about it this year?  Surely there must be some local folks who could get involved...

As it turns out... (0.00 / 0)
...February 28th was the last day to file petitions on that, there were/are 3 Board positions opening up.

Frankly, I dropped the ball on this.  I should have made an inquiry on the very first day this issue hit my "radar screen"; it may have been possible to find/recruit a slate of pro-American pro-Constitution pro-Free Will candidates.  Mea Culpa.

After feeling the vibe from Tuesday's meeting I don't see this Board being flexble.  On a smaller scale, they are like the Bush Administration: locked in stone.

They can't back off as their whole ego/identity is involved...(and the actual truth might make them legally liable on a personal basis.)  I want to be there if/when this goes to court and these folks are cross examined under oath.

This is "Inherit the Wind" all over again; but in effing REVERSE!  Who woulda thunk that this could happen in 2007 in the NY metro area!?

Let's pray that Roger discovers that someone from the 21st century is running!
