cross-posted at Daily Kos and MyDD

With as many friends as ActBlue has in the Democratic blogging community, it's about time we joined the party with a blog of our own. So today we are launching our official ActBlue Blog where we look forward to bringing our donors, candidates, campaigns, fundraisiers, and bloggers interesting resources, analysis, tips, and other information to more effectively raise funds to elect Democrats!

Here's just a sampling of things you can expect to see-

  • Case Studies on some of the most creative ways ActBlue has been used
  • Analysis on how and why people donate
  • State Reports that highlight successful state level campaigns
  • Tips & Tricks about ways to use ActBlue you may not have known about
  • Page of the Week where we will highlight our favorite fundraising strategies
  • Monthly ActBlue Zeitgeist to explore trends, patterns, and other cool stuff
  • Major Series where we will explore how we are most relevant to your efforts in fundraising

Tomorrow we'll be releasing our version of a case study on the Secretary of State Project (which I was a blogger for last year before being hired by ActBlue).

Our posts will strive to be informative and useful while maintaining the Democratic grassroots values which have driven us for the last two and a half years. We encourage you to subscribe to our RSS feed or sign up to receive new posts via e-mail to keep up with our latest posts (both available at http://blog.actblue.com).

Much of the growth for ActBlue and the netroots in the next 2 years will be at the state level. Hopefully I'll be able to work with you to enable more successes in the statehouse while we work to expand our DC majority. If you have thoughts or questions, please leave me a comment!

What gives? (4.00 / 2)
ActBlue, you know we love you, but you folks aren't coming into New Jersey, even though we have some very hotly contested legislative races up this year.  I can understand if there are legal rules, campaign finance laws getting in the way, etc., but it's kind of insulting to go through all of that and then have you post a diary to Blue Jersey talking about how great your services are for state-level races. ActBlue is non-existent here.

That said, what can we do on the ground here in New Jersey to remove the barriers to entry for you? Who do we need to lobby? What regulations need to be changed? Perhaps that is the type of thing you guys should be posting on your new blog and in diaries like this one.

progress can be made (0.00 / 0)
Scott,

There were a lot of states yesterday where this was crossposted where ActBlue isn't active yet. With a staff or less than a half dozen (two of us have only been on board since January) progress gets made as it is feasible. We just activated Virginia and Mississippi last month (they have elections this year) and are working on work on some exiting developmental test projects which may allow us to work with a number of states where we otherwise have barriers to moving forward in our typical way- developments that could help us in New Jersey as well.

That being said, I'm not the legal guru of the bunch and can't advise you on specific actions in this comment that can be taken to make that possible (though I certainly want to make it possible). New Jersey has many important state level races where we would be a natural fit.

That's kind of the whole point of launching the blog, and why I'm actively listening in on about 50 state blogs at any given time (which is quite a task in itself) and interacting with a lot of communities. Hopefully, we can have those conversations and stumble upon solutions more quickly. Drop a line to info@actblue.com and we can have a discussion more specific to what needs to happen in NJ with some of the staff that is more experienced with the research into it.

Bummer that actblue's sphere of influence is so limited in NJ.  which is too bad since it was such a useful tool during the federal election cycle.

Blue Jersey is one of the premier examples of what should be happening for state level blogging in every state. I've been indexing the entire country's state blog networks and the variety is very impressive, though in some places much behind where it could be (like Mississippi which has about one and a half bloggers for the entire state).

Some of them are raising funds to activate ActBlue in their states (it's not something that is free for ActBlue to do). We're approaching the halfway point and should soon be at having half the country activated on the state level, all in just a couple of years. Let's see what we can do with New Jersey. As far as I'm aware, you are better off than other states which appear to have constitutional restrictions!
