Republicans Wrong On Taxes? Say It Ain't So, Joe!

by: huntsu

To start, taxes in New Jersey are too high.  We need to restructure the state to provide better services at lower costs for our residents.  I don't like paying high taxes, and would like to stop doing so.

That said, the Republican-American claims that taxes are driving business from the state and destroying our economy are a bunch of crap.

Last week we learned that NJ is the second best state -- after MA -- in transitioning to the new service economy.

And now we learn that our joless rate fell to 4.2 percent this week, the lowest rate in five years

What happened five years ago?  Republicans were kicked out of office and the Democrats took over the Governor's chair and both houses of the legislature.

Second best transition to the new economy, better employment rate than under Republicans, Democratic control.

Well, you have to understand that... (0.00 / 0)
Our Elephantoidal friends have canon, which must be quoted at every opportunity. It does not need any relationship to reality, as defined by societal norms. It's really more like the "clap louder" bit in Peter Pan.

Another part of their canon is that there was never anyone named Christie Whitman who ever lived in NJ, much less spent it into the ground.

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

Just a few thoughts (0.00 / 0)
NJ is one of the richest 3 states, NJ is in the top 3 of paying taxes. The USA has the lowest taxation of any industrialized nation.

And

A study by Seneca and another Rutgers University economist, James W. Hughes, last year found that New Jersey is losing high paid jobs, and getting much of its job growth in the relatively low-paid education and health and leisure and hospitality sectors.

Thats not good.

this is TERRIBLE news (0.00 / 0)
just as it's bad for the country to be moving to a service-based economy, it is most certainly bad for this state.  especially a state in which it is so expensive to live.

regardless of the reason, it is foolish to celebrate this.  this is most certainly bad news.

It would be better ... (0.00 / 0)
It would be better to have more manufacturing, certainly.

However, if the Employee Choice Act passes it will be easier to unionize service economy shops and the salaries and benefits will improve.
