I wonder... (0.00 / 0)
...how many Kucinich supporters in North Jersey would have bought a ticket to the Garden State Equality fundraiser in Maplewood, which is also on Sunday, had this free public event not been scheduled in Morristown, which is only a short ride up or down (depending on your perspective) SR 24.

Had Kucinich scheduled his free event in South Jersey, he would have been able to reward his two biggest supporters in the state, Bill Brown and Anne Creter, and not cannibalized to some degree a very important fundraiser.

Once again, the Kucinich campaign is all about Dennis Kucinich and his ego; not about the issues that he claims to champion.  I hope that he proves me wrong by mentioning the Maplewood fundraiser at the Morristown event and strongly encourages the attendees of the latter to purchase tickets for the former.

I think Dave C.in Morris DFA planned this a while ago (0.00 / 0)
But I don't know when the Maplewood event was set up. On the other hand, having a fundraiser on St Pats day is a tuff weekend anyway I look at it it. My School Board Slate will marching in the parade in Hoboken on Saturday, then the Campaign Kick off is Sunday. This presented all kinds of logistically problems.

Conflict in the Eye of the Beholder (0.00 / 0)
On February 13 a notice was sent to all Kucinich supporters in NJ inviting them to buy tickets for the GSE Legends Dinner in Maplewood and "...meet with Dennis and other notables and support GSE at the same time." The Morristown event was not even scheduled at that time.
Kucinich did not schedule the Morristown event. He was invited and graciously revised his schedule so that he could attend both events.
It is very unlikely that the Morristown event is keeping anyone away from the GSE event.

what's it "all about"?

Kucinich, like other outlyer candidates, helps keep the mainstream Dems honest by raising those important but uncomfortable issues the pack leaders have colluded on avoiding. what's the gripe? that he didn't know what one progressive organization had on its schedule this weekend?

holy conspiracy, batman!

let's not cannibalize each other, now, shall we?

Dennis Kucinich does not keep anybody honest, because nobody except his small band of loyal followers takes anything that he has to say seriously, primarily because his positions don't originate from a set of core values, but instead come from whatever position he determines will make people pay attention to him.

When he ran for Governor of Ohio, he was pro-life, but then became pro-choice when he ran for Congress.  During the Iowa caucuses in 2004, he instructed his supporters to back John Edwards, who voted for the war in Iraq, instead of Howard Dean, who shared his opposition to it.  Carol Mosely Braun was a far more eloquent advocate of single payer universal health care than Kucinich.

If anybody cares, they can reread My Beef with Dennis Kucinich, which explains my feelings about this extremely small (not referring to his height) person in fr greater detail.

Lew Candura is a very good guy and a smart politician.  I don't begrudge him the decison to give Kucinich more credibility than he deserves, because I know that Lew knows that the DFA-PDA people in Morris County are the heart and soul of the Democratic Party and doing anything and everything he can to engage and mobilize them is proof positive of how smart he truly is.

That said, whomever decided to invite Kucinich to appear at a free event on the same day as an important fundraiser that was being held less than a half-hour away, wasn't thinking about the big picture.

Kucinich is attending the GSE event.

So from Maplewood you take (0.00 / 0)
Millburn Ave. thru Maplewood, thru Millburn, take a right on Morris turnpike, follow to the ramp for rt 24, right into the heart of Morristown.

Easy.

of course, but... (0.00 / 0)
...my concern is that people who might have otherwise paid to go to the GSE fundraiser in Maplewood, because Kucinich is going to be there, might not because they can see him for free in Morristown.

Hopefully, Kucinich and the Morristown event organizers will go out of their way to encourage the attendees in the strongest terms to buy a ticket to the GSE event as well, especialy considering how easy it is for them to get from Morristown to Maplewood.

Just reverse the directions provided above.

I just got an email from the progressive caucus with the info that the doors will open in Morristown at 3:30.  I'm glad to learn Kucinich will also be attending the GSE gala.

Juan is much too modest to mention that Blue Jersey will be receiving the Laurel Hester Prize at the GSE gala!  Go Juan! Go Blue Jersey!  Hurray!

Really, I was just pointing out that Kucinich will be there.

Kucinich is indeed speaking at the Garden State Equality's Legends Dinner (4.00 / 1)
I think I know just a little bit about this dinner.  First, Kucinich is indeed speaking at the dinner.  Second, it's completely expected, and no bruised feelings whatsoever, that a presidential candidate flying to a certain state for one event build other events around it - it would be crazy not to.  That's smart scheduling.  Third, we're honoring Kucinich for being the first presidential candidate to support marriage equality - NOT with the expectation tha he would  bring in tickets.  His supporters are absolutely wonderful but we had figured they, like many progressives, wouldn't have the money to buy tickets.  That turned out to be true, LOL - Kucinich brought in not a dime, but we are nonetheless thrilled he is speaking and to honor him for his support of marriage equality.  Fourth, if you've seen the lineup, Kucinich is one of many notables speaking - it's a who's who of national and state figures.  Finally, the Legends Dinner is completely sold out.
