"How do you not want this guy running our country?"

by: JRB

Mon Feb 26, 2007 at 04:10:07 PM EST

That was Assemblyman Reed Gusciora speaking about Al Gore. Today, Gusciora announced "he will lead a movement in New Jersey to draft Al Gore" to run for president. PoliticsNJ has the story:
"He didn't vote for the war, didn't apologize for it, and is more seasoned than the rest of 2008 prospect," said Gusciora, a six-term Democrat from Princeton.  "Now he has an Oscar and a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. How do you not want this guy running our country?"

Gusciora was the first New Jersey elected official to endorse Howard Dean in 2004 -- almost a year before the state political establishment jumped on board.

No, I don't want him running the country... (0.00 / 0)
...but I do want him running the executive branch.  In fact, while I'll support any Democrat ahead of any Republican in the 2008 presidential race, Al Gore is the only Democrat for whom I would get out in the streets and work.

Now that Feingold is a no go, I don't foresee there being another candidate for whom I'd work for besides Gore.

Run Al, Run!  We need you, sir.  Please come to our rescue, p l e a s e !

Gore-Obama in 2008 (4.00 / 1)
I think the perfect Democratic ticket is Gore-Obama.  Gore has the clout, the mandate, and the experience; Obama has the charisma and new ideas.  Plus, as Vice President, Obama will get the much-needed experience that he needs to get elected President.  Which he doesn't have now.  So I vote for 8 years of Gore followed by 8 years of Obama.

It is a dream I have.

Not one that I expect to come true, unfortunately.

Inspiration (0.00 / 0)
For years, we have lacked candidates who had the ability to inspire us.  I concur with a Gore-Obama ticket, not only for the intellect and honesty that comes with that team, but also for the inspiration that both men provide.

But Al Gore is truly awe-inspiring.  While the right wing "swift-boats" Gore http://www.dailykos.... by delving into his personal records and providing less than half the truth, Gore himself does not tout the many ways in which he contributes behind the scenes by doing actual work.  He was extremely active in helping Katrina victims, but he helped them without drawing attention to himself.

So, we have inspiration, intelligence, and HUMILITY in this great leader.

But, I would not blame him for not running.  It's a brutal game, and the fact is, he might just be too smart to run.  Often, those who desire power are the very ones who will abuse it; and those who deserve power shun it.  Given the treatment that Gore recieved in 2000, I don't blame him for not wanting to go through that again.

Al Gore for President (0.00 / 0)
Since Al Gore did win the first time out, and now has gathered a great deal of World Wide exposure while taking the lead in saving our planet, I, for one, am ready to do what I can to get him elected...but first we need to draft him.
If they get the counts right this time out, Al Gore wins again.
