Last week, the Kearny School Board finally decided what to do in the case of a history teacher who was caught on tape foretelling his students' certain damnation. It was, essentially, 'Students can only tape with the teacher's permission, and they will attempt to educate teachers on their legal responsibilities preventing them from telling a student "you belong in hell."

But that wasn't it. Up until a few days ago, the history teacher, David Paszkiewicz, was still teaching the class with the student who taped him in it -- even after Paszkiewicz insinuated that the student was part of "an effort afoot to undermine the very underpinnings of our freedoms." Perhaps Paszkiewicz thought the school board's deliberations were taking so long because they were unfolding this dastardly plot? Or maybe he thought the school board would say, 'Tell whoever you want that they're going straight to hell,' and he'd have the same captive audience to judge?

So, you can imagine his disappointment when the school board informed him that, legally, he was way out of line (even with the consolation that his students can now be punished for taping without his permission). As a result, Paszkiewicz has requested and been granted a classroom change. School officials have declined to comment.

And so, after nearly five months, the controversy in Kearny comes to a close -- at least until Paszkiewicz opens his mouth again.

school system should be camped outside the Board of Ed demonstrating their disgust for David Paszkiewicz.

I understand that there are laws and regulations to protect teachers from arbitrary and unfair actions on the part of management but the failure to severly sanction David Paszkiewicz in this instance is bloody absurd.

David Paszkiewicz is an un-American and I dare say un-Christian proto-fascist who seems to think he has the right to brainwash innocent children.

David Paszkiewicz, when did God die and give YOU the right to shove your private version of His word down the throats of other peoples children in a PUBLIC school???

Come on out David Paszkiewicz, where ever you are. Come into the bright light of day and tell us why you dared to abuse these innocent children with you abhorrent indoctrination.

The fact that you are still allowed to "teach" is an indication of just how screwed up our system is...not of how much you deserve the privilege.

SHAME on on Kearney Board of Education for not firng David Paszkiewicz on the spot and being willing to press the case in court.

I have to wonder if David Paszkiewicz doesn't have some kind of political "in" with the Kearny Board of Education? Or maybe David Paszkiewicz is blackmailing them?

If this case ends with David Paszkiewicz simply being transferred to another school and the rules being changed to prevent any other student from recording abusive un-American unauthorized unconstitutional "curricula" being "taught" then we are living in bizarre times indeed.

Again, David Paszkiewicz, I challenge you to defend your actions in the light of day...in this public forum.

If you, David Paszkiewicz, are inded such a great "Christian" you should have the courage of your alleged "faith" and preach to US.

Yes David Paszkiewicz preach to US; here in a place where we may question your assertions and you may respond and we may have a free and open DISCUSSION!!!

Or are you, David Paszkiewicz, a religious fanatic who can only "preach" to a captive audience of children to whom you, as an "authority" figure, can dictate, the sermon as if your were God himself?

David Paszkiewicz, I've got news for you. People who think they can dictate to others absolute "spiritual" "truths" are petty tyrants who are at best deluded ego trippers who unwittingly do the devils work and at worst willing agents of Satan.

If you David Paszkiewicz, are the former...I pray you have a sliver of Conscience remaining in your being and you enter the fray of public discourse to defend your actions...which, you should be (from your "perspective") proud of.

On the other hand, David Paszkiewicz, if you are the latter...then you have no choice but to remain silent, hidden in the dark place where you have condemned yorself to "exist".

That darkness, as you David Paszkiewicz, well know can not stand the Light of Day.

Mr Paskiewicz Do You Have The Guts To... ...Defend your actions, as reported by the New York Times, in an open/public forum?
I've called you out here [link to this diary], and want you to be fully aware of that fact. I strongly believe that you totally wrong in this case. Wrong on every level.
Who knows? You may win the argument and convince me that I am in error. Go for it!

Reminds me of the actions taken by Catholic church officials to deal with priests accused of sexual predation--just assign them to another parish.
In the meantime, the Kearny board of education, by prohibiting students from taping teacher lectures, is making sure that in the future, no student can ever prove such classroom misconduct by a teacher.
Punish the whistleblower--not the offender. Sounds familiar.
