Nominate your favorite Republican State Assemblyperson or Senator

by: FogerRox

Wed Nov 15, 2006 at 08:44:14 PM EST

I think I need to catch up on NJ Politics, the kind in Trenton. Not being very familiar with the folks in Trenton I thought the peeps @ bluejersey might give me a leg up on the worst of the worst.

Specifically, who's the most vulnerable, the most extreme, who is just wrong on the issues & why, who is going to retire, who deserves to lose next year. Or even who's worthy of a rant.

I have taken the liberty of posting a hopefully complete list of Republicans in Trenton @ my NJ BLUE BUX blog.

FogerRox :: Nominate your favorite Republican State Assemblyperson or Senator
After I have winnowed down the list of victims, er ah, I mean republicans, I will be using the list in a fundraising proposal amoungst my DFA friends. So yeah, the NEO CON race baiting, gay bashing, SOB you nominate today, might end up seeing money donated to their opponent later this year. I'm not sure this is the best way to kick off Campaign 2007, but it works for me, so have at it friends.

Oh, I have already hi-lited Merkt & Kean as a start.

merkt is angel compared to (0.00 / 0)
the other jerks in the 25th. Carroll is by far the nuttiest person in the Assembly and Bucco is a thug and party boss.

I know I had something to catch up on, LOL. (0.00 / 0)
Carroll...check

Bucco.....check

Take Your Pick... (4.00 / 1)
Any incumbent in districts 23 to 26 who plans on running in 2007.

Of all those, Carroll can be beaten.  He is Tom Coburn crazy and he won by only 5,000 votes last cycle.

true (4.00 / 2)
The 26th should be interesting b/c of the primary we'll see for the Assembly seat left open by Pennochio. (this primary will also put DeCroce on the line and if Casha and Webb run to his right, who knows what might happen) Also, who knows, maybe we'll see another primary for State Senate.  Believe it or not, the Dems would have stood a better chance at that Assembly seat if Martin stayed in it b/c he is so loathed by the conservatives of the Republican party.

The 24th might be interesting too.  Gregg may end up challenging Littell in a primary to avoid having him name his daughter McHose to the Assembly seat.  If that 24th district Assembly seat opens up, Margaret Nordstrom, current Morris County Freeholder Director, is likely to throw her hat in the ring.

In 2005, Avery Hart and Kate McCabe made tremendous strides in the 26th and it would be nice to see 2 strong female candidates again.  The 26th is rough though; the numbers might just not be there.  Same in the 24th, though I don't recall much about those candidates.

Finally, we have part of the 16th District running through Morris County.  In 2005, Goldberg and his running mate worked hard and did a lot of canvassing, but the 16th is another staunchly Republican district that is just too tough for the dems.

25th is def. the best shot in Morris County.  Would not be at all surprised to see a Democratic primary in that race.  People can sense it's getting close to tipping and want their shot at those seats.  Luckily Morris dems run friendly primaries and they serve to get the ultimate candidates' names out there early.

The most high profile race of 2007 though, and the most well funded race, is bound to be Karcher-Beck.  That is really going to be a doozy.  Beck is going to be a very good candidate and being in the minority party has allowed her to sit on her laurels and sit out controversial votes (I don't know that she has done this, but if she was smart and anticipating this race against Karcher, she probably did).  Karcher has not had that same luxury.  Keeping Karcher in the Senate has got to be a top priority next year.

Wyka lives in NJL-26, doesn't he? (0.00 / 0)
And I know Wefer is focused on breaking through into the Freeholder Board but imagine a Wefer-Carroll Assembly race...

IIRC Parsippany. Yeah I take it Dana is going after the Freeholder seat, but good on her. (0.00 / 0)

Take Martin off the list because he's retiring. (0.00 / 0)
Plus, he is much less conservative than everybody else in that crowd.  He is closer politically to Rodney Frelinghuysen and Marge Roukema.  As for the rest of them, they fit neatly between Atilla the Hun and Genghis Kahn on the political spectrum.

Martin- done (0.00 / 0)

martin's seat (0.00 / 0)
will be taken by Pennochio (most likley, though we may see a surprise primary).  Then the 26th Assembly seat that Pennochio now holds will prob. be Webb or Casha, both are pretty far to the right.  Won't know much more until after the primary.  Are we listing seats or Republicans?  (That said, none of those seats are really vulnerable, the 26th and 24th may be the worst districts in the state)

[ Parent ]
Well I think you (morrisdem) just made the case that seats and Republicans (0.00 / 0)
are worth looking at. Though I would think that when it comes to DFA donating to DEMs, and wanting to have an impact (ie, getting bang for your buck) General vulnerability is a factor.

I got it, you can rate a repub with a 1 to 10 scale of vulnerability factor.
1 is "this repub isnt going anywhere".
10 is "Dems could run a gerbil and win"

But obviously its not that simple, which is why local knowledge is such a factor.

23rd's pretty bad too... (0.00 / 0)
but I still think Carroll might be beatable in the 25th, especially in the right year.  It's a bit of a Scott Garrett situation with him.  Yes, his district is solidly Republican, but not solidly reactionary.  Corzine did run within 10 points there in 2005.

Casha and Webber are just vile.  Webber sounds like Bill Sali, Tom Coburn and Scott Garrett all rolled into one, and that's probably intentional.

i love (0.00 / 0)
that description.  I once heard a story (from a reporter) that when McHose was appointed to her Assembly seat Assm. DeCroce, when she was walking up to the podium said something along the lines of "Isn't she a pretty girl."  They are really unbelievable.

...are we voting for our least favorite GOPer or the one we like the most?

Least fav, This may lead to NJ DFA donations to (0.00 / 0)
opponents of the repubs you nominate. I'll be working to build up the NJ DFA coffers, so as to have an impact on a few of these seats. I'm hoping this year a DFA endorsment will mean more with some cash backing it up.

Check out my 3 paragraph primer on Polywell Fusion.

in that case.... (0.00 / 0)
....Tom Kean Junior!

Um Jay, I'm learning a lot about these repubs in Trenton.... (0.00 / 0)

NJL-16: Open Seat (0.00 / 0)
Assemblyman Bateman is challenging State Senator Kavanaugh in the primary so there will be an open seat in this district.  Stender ran very strong compared to past challengers in Ferguson's base in Somerset and Hunterdon.  Montgomery Township is growing fast and going blue even faster.  It's not a particularly vulnerable seat but it is trending our way.
