Put Down the Mouse, and Get Out of the House

(Weather forecast: sunny, breezy and beautiful. A perfect day for volunteering. - promoted by noweeman)

Blue Jersey has been talking about the importance of Tuesday's mid-term elections - showcasing candidates, raising nearly $10,000 in small donations, and having a whole lot of fun.

Now, it's time for the real work - Getting. Out. The. Vote.

Mid-term elections have notoriously low turnouts, so every vote we turn out is critical. Wherever you are in the state - there is something for you to do TODAY to help. Go do it.

Not interested in the events near you? Then take a ride out to Flemington in Hunterdon County to see the foliage and help Linda Stender at an all-day "knock and rock" phonebank followed by live music party. For Linda to win on Tuesday, she needs to kick ass in all four counties in NJ-7 - red and blue alike. You can help.

If we want to celebrate on Tuesday night, we need to GOTV statewide - a 21-county strategy, if you will.

So, why are you still reading this? It's a beautiful day - put down the mouse, and get out of the house.

I didn't know where to put this post, so I ploped it here.

Were/Are there any problems with voting in NJ?

I was a Kerry poll watcher in Allentown PA in 2004.  Have lots of amusing stories re: the happenings at the particular polling place at which I was stationed, but nothing nefarious.

I try to keep up with voting stuff, but I haven't heard anything about the "pay to play" state.

I know its hard these days to get/renew a driver's license.  I was wondering if it was as difficult to vote.

...it probably won't matter if you don't have a NJ license.  in fact, i have never showed my ID to vote before.  Maybe that fact is due to the "invisible backpack of white provledge" that my race affords me, but so far no ID check.

in fact, i have been ready to indignantly show some bitchass poll worker who gets in my face about an ID, but so far nada.

still, i would bring my voter reg card and some other ID just in case.

I worked at a poll last year (0.00 / 0)
and most common problem I saw was people going to the wrong district to vote.  I don't recall any serious problems, but you should be able to get a provisional ballot.  I've never shown ID to vote, they just match signatures.

Oh, the shame! (0.00 / 0)
I have a "Haggard" little secret.  I guess I should come out.

I hafta vote in NYC.  I grew up in Jersey but moved to the City because, even tho Jersey is a Blue state, at the time, the racism, sexism and homophobia was/were unbearable.

I live p/t in Jersey and choose to follow its politics. Hillary, Chuck, I mean really!  My local NYC and state pols are pretty good and Spitzer rocks.

I have never had a problem voting at my local polling place in NYC. It's not because of my white (female) skin privilege; no one has a problem in my precinct (maybe because Charlie Rangel is my rep). There have never been dueling political poll watchers. I have never encountered a line.  The worst of it is the paid poll people.  They are all older than dirt and a little bit ditzy, but I love them all the same.

So I was just curious about Jersey.

As an act of contrition, if I can, I will volunteer for Aransohn on Tues. to GOTV.  My father told me to always root for the underdog.
