The Truth About Junior

by: huntsu

Thu Nov 02, 2006 at 08:42:35 PM EST

Tom Kean Jr. wants you to think Bob Menendez is corrupt.  Junior wants it so badly that he is willing to lie, spin, exaggerate, cajole, selectively edit and whisper innuendo to get you to believe it.

But the truth is Tom Kean Jr. is full of shit.

This is a guy I actually used to like.  Personally.  We weren't friends who spent the holidays together or anything, but we definitely were glad to see each other at various political and social events.  All in all, he was someone who I might have considered voting for if the Democrat was a complete putz.

At the time I did not realize Tom Kean Jr. was the complete putz.  If I see him at an event now I will probably be polite but look for a quick escape.  Anyone else to talk to other than Junior.

huntsu :: The Truth About Junior

His willingness to debase himself, to corrode the public discourse and portray himself as something he is not just makes me feel slimy.  And I've been around politicians all my life.

You can look at the five paragraphs above through a partisan lens, sure.  I'm a lifelong Democrat and while I am angry with Menendez for voting to allow torture and to eradicate habeas corpus, I am voting for him next Tuesday.  Any good and loyal Democrat and Menendez supporter would be able to say the same thing.

But I have evidence now, courtesy of Herb Jackson of the Bergen Record, that Junior is a mendacious liar looking to spin anything into the crime of the century solely to benefit his own ambitions and power.

Republican Senate hopeful Tom Kean Jr.'s campaign called developer Murray Kushner's money "dirty" in a September news release that noted Democrat Bob Menendez had taken $7,700 of it.

On Wednesday, Kean's campaign said it had made a mistake.

What changed?

Kushner gave Kean $8,000 on Friday.

Junior would have us believe that a scandal-plagued political player donating to Bob Menendez is proof that Menendez is corrupt.  But that same scandal-plagued political player donating to Junior is not a problem.  See, Junior is a "reformer."

In the dictionary Junior had printed up just for his campaign's use "reformer" is defined as, "Someone who accomplishes little in four years of elected office yet is so eager for a major jump in authority, power and responsibility he is willing to do anything no matter how hypocritical or sleazy."

The only positive of all this is that this scorched earth, Karl Rovian campaign has done so much damage to his reputation that Junior has little chance of rehabilitating himself.  If he loses this election after throwing so much shit against the wall he will be damaged goods, and have to run for his own State Senate seat next year.  He is fortunate that the 21st is such a safe district.

Perfectly awful - but... (0.00 / 0)
...remember who else lost his first Congressional race.

A guy who was the son of a famous, well-respected politician. Heard he went on to start a war.

I hate to say this, but when this is over, we won't have heard the last of Jr. Not by a long shot.

Thanks for pointing out the article - pretty much sums up this entire campaign.

This is his second ... (0.00 / 0)
This is Kean Junior's second loss -- Ferguson beat him in the primary in 2000.

But the point is not that it is impossible to follow a loss.  It's that Kean Junior can only win based on a clean and flawless reputation, and he threw that away.  As he had nothing else to offer, there's nothing left to run on.

Junior is no Bush... (0.00 / 0)
Bush had Rove holding his hand and directing him every step of the way...Junior has no equivalent.

Also, President Bush sounds absolutely intelligent and coherent when compared to Junior.

Without the Hudson County angle; Junior would be down by 20 at this point.

Rest assured, if there were any "smoking guns" out there; Menendez would be full of holes right now...the attacks are of the baseless "guilt by association" type.

Though, once Menendez wins; I hope he will be open to leading on all manner of reform legislation designed to get much tougher on all manner of corruption in the public and private sectors.

Highest Morals? (0.00 / 0)
I was listening the the Joan Hamburg show on radio WOR 710 this morning.  I'm sorry that I didn't catch the name of the commentator, but she was doing a story on nepotism in business and politics.  She mentioned that she spoke with Kean Jr.,  who assured her that while he was glad that people knew his family name and associated it with the highest morals, he was definitely the one running, not his father.  Wonder why then his dad is in his TV ads and his campaign appearances?
