Tom Wyka & Rodney Frelinghuysen debate video

by: FogerRox

Sat Oct 28, 2006 at 02:14:14 AM EDT

(This should be available to everyone in the district. - promoted by DBK)

Thanks to Eagle at Blip.tv for getting this recorded and uploaded so quickly.  The debate between republican incumbant Rodney Frelinghuysen and democratic challenger Tom Wyka, took place at Morristown Highschool friday evening. I think the video starts after Rodney Frelinghuysen's opening remarks, right as Tom Wyka gives his opening statement. It took no more than 10 seconds after opening his mouth for Rodney to invoke 9-11. Sounds familiar, right?

I believe in Tom Wyka's effort. I also know Carol Gay, and I love Carol as a candidate,  Afterall, I wrote her 2 checks, she needs to be in Washington DC too. But after seeing Tom Wyka onstage with Rodney Frelinghuysen, it is clear to me that Wyka, may be one of the best challenging candidates in this cycle, short of Linda Stender. Wyka owned the stage, he was authoritative, without being overbearing, articulate, knowledgable. This guy Wyka just plain makes sense.

Ok, enough hyperbole. Lets go to the video tape...

.

Oh yeah, the file is Windows Media, click on the image.

FogerRox :: Tom Wyka & Rodney Frelinghuysen debate video
Interesting to note... that Rodney Frelinghuysen mentioned "Clean Coal", I am not sure what that is. He also mentioned "Fission power". If any of you at Bluejersey can fill me in on these terms, I would be grateful.

UPDATE

After the debate voters lined up to speak to Tom & shake his hand. This went on well after Rodney Frelinghuysen left the auditorium.

Then the faithful sauntered over to the Famished Frog,
across the street from the Morristown Democratic HQ,
where the after debate party got started.

I found some kids who had just raided the HQ for lawn signs
& held their own party in the street.

And one final note{s}, Rodney Frelinghuysen would not agree to videotaping of the debate, we were not able to get a non-partisian entity to tape it for us. Alas some brave citizen did tape the debate, untill Rodney Frelinghuysen saw the camera about 3/4's of the thru, & complained. CLuck, cluck, cluck. Someone told me the videographer will post the video at blip.tv. I searched and found the video, and you know I gad to post here.

Clean coal is nothing to laugh at. The US has gigantic amounts of coal within our borders and it will likely remain a major source of fuel since it is so cheap. Practically speaking, we can't ignore this fact. That's why it's important that we implement clean coal technology. Here's a description of it from wikipedia:
Clean coal is the name attributed to coal chemically washed of minerals and impurities, sometimes gasified, burned and the resulting flue gases treated with steam, with the purpose of almost completely eradicating sulphur dioxide and reburned so as to make the carbon dioxide in the flue gas economically recoverable. The carbon dioxide can then be captured and stored instead of being released into the atmosphere (see carbon capture and storage). However, the byproducts of this treatment are very hazardous to the environment if they're not properly contained. This is seen to be the technology's biggest hurdle from both a practical and public relations point of view.

Fission is the process nuclear power plants use to generate power. What he may have meant to say is fusion power, which has been researched for many years, but there are currently no commercial power plants yet. If it happens, it will probably about 50 years off, but it's definitely worth investing in. Fission and fussion plants would work through similar ideas, but fusion produces no radioactive waste.

To solve our energy crisis will require a multi-pronged approach. Conservation alone will not fix it. Efficiency improvements alone will not fix it. It is an enormous problem and if you're interested in learning more about it, consider reading about the stabilization problem and the "7 wedges" needed to solve it.

Sorry jmelli, I was being flipant. (0.00 / 0)
" Rodney Frelinghuysen mentioned "Clean Coal", I am not sure what that is. He also mentioned "Fission power". If any of you at Bluejersey can fill me in on these terms, I would be grateful.

But you know what? Clean Coal is kinda funny. If we haven't solved a number of todays problems, with solutions we can implement today. And in 20 or 30 years there is enough anticipated unmet electrical demand to make Clean Coal economically fruitful by 2040 or 2050, we will have already screwed ourselves. That is why I find commentary like Congressman Frelinghuysen's offensive.

It very well could be that if we don't do certain things NOW, 50 years from now will be a post-apocalyptic world with Mel Gibson's all over the place. In this scenario, I could not give rats ass about Clean Coal. There won't be the demand.

When you consider our present day Middle East
Policy, Jimmy Carter was so ironically right
when he said that our energy policy requires the "Moral equivalent of War".

Maybe in 50 years we can already have placed Industry in orbit and elsewhere in space. Thars gold in them thar Asteroids. And Bauxite & Tungsten, etc.
