Tom Kean Sr Says Iraq Was a Mistake

by: Juan Melli

Fri Oct 27, 2006 at 10:01:16 AM EDT

In a report on NJN by Zachary Fink last night, they revealed that Tom Kean Sr, in an interview done earlier this year, has said the Iraq War was a mistake, putting him at odds with his son:
FINK (voiceover): In an interview last spring, Kean’s father, the former governor and chairman of the 9/11 commission, said he thought the war was a mistake.
Kean Sr (from April 7 sitdown with NJN): Iraq is a situation that’s developed after our action. We have to deal with that instability. But if you want to go back historically, that wasn’t the place to go.
FINK (voiceover): Kean has been campaigning with his father this fall but seems to have staked out a different position on Iraq.

FINK (today, outside statehouse): Was it a mistake?

Kean Jr: I will not be asking what ifs. It’s a disrespect to the troops who have their lives and sacrificed so much over the last several years. The important question is what’s next.

So Tom Kean Jr either believes his father (who is now a centerpiece of his campaign) is disrespecting our troops or he's being disengenuous and is just afraid to answer an important question.

something Junior's overrated father and I agree on. Any thinking person by now realizes Bush's Iraq war was a terrible mistake. For Junior to still not acknowledge this is beyond pathetic.

I can see an Onion Headline coming out of this one (4.00 / 2)
Tom Kean Senior Admits He Names the Wrong Twin "Junior"

WESTFIELD - Former Governor Tom Kean, Sr. today admitted that he wished he had switched the names he and his wife gave their twin sons over 38 years ago.

"Looking back, we should have given the Tom Kean name to our son Reed and name Junior, Reed," said Governor.  "Maybe, then, Tommy wouldn't have felt the desire to run for public office and disgrace the name I work so hard to build up.  I don't know if Reed would have made a better politician, but I honestly can't imagine him screwing things up any worse than Tommy."

The startling admission is seen as a major blow against the younger Kean's floundering Senatorial campaign.

"Junior is probably very thankful right now that time machines don't exist," said David Rebovich, a professor at Rider University and a Captain of the Obvious Patrol.  "Governor Kean would most likely use one if they existed to go back in time and change how his past self named his twin sons.  That would certainly end any possibility of Tom Kean, Jr. to go to the Senate."
