Time for Tom Kean Sr. to Condemn Bush/Rice Coverup

by: Hopeful

Sun Oct 01, 2006 at 07:18:00 PM EDT

The corrupt national Republican party has so many scandals blowing up it's hard to keep track of them all, but here's one that hits close to home.  Bob Woodward's new book reveals that CIA Director George Tenet and counterterrorism chief J. Cofer Black met with Condoleeza Rice on 10 July 2001.  Their purpose was to urgently warn Rice that a major attack was imminent and that something had to be done.

We now know that this meeting was covered up by Rice and the Bush administration.  Tom Kean Sr. must immediately condemn their lies before the respected 9/11 Commission.

Now, you might rightly note that this is Tenet's version of the story, and it may be self-serving.  You're free to wonder about the details of the meeting, and look for more evidence.  But there's a remarkable fact here:  The New York Times reports that "9/11 Panel Members Weren’t Told of Meeting".  Here are the quotes from the commissioners:

“None of this was shared with us in hours of private interviews, including interviews under oath, nor do we have any paper on this,” said Timothy J. Roemer, a Democratic member of the commission and a former House member from Indiana. “I’m deeply disturbed by this. I’m furious.”

Another Democratic commissioner, former Watergate prosecutor Richard Ben-Veniste, said that the staff of the Sept. 11 commission was polled in recent days on the disclosures in Mr. Woodward’s book and agreed that the meeting “was never mentioned to us.”

“This is certainly something we would have wanted to know about,” he said, referring to the July 10, 2001, meeting.

Indeed, there's nothing in  Chapter 8 of the 9/11 Commission Report about such a meeting -- although to be sure, there are numerous other warnings that summer that were ignored at the top of the Bush administration.

The conclusion is unmistakable that regardless of how forcefully Tenet pushed this warning, Rice covered up this meeting and therefore lied to the commission.

Tom Kean Sr. has made a lot of mileage out of his nonpartisan handling of the respected 9/11 Commission.  Heck, he even got a no-show consulting gig for an  'docudrama.'  Now it's time for him to condemn the Bush Administrations's coverup of this meeting.  Or if he won't, we'll see once again that the Kean Jr. campaign slogan should be  "Rubberstamp for Bush."

Note how the Republicans operate (0.00 / 0)
Actual meetings that really took place are expunged from the record, even if that requires lying under oath.

Meanwhile, fictional scenes are invented to blame Clinton and Democrats.

Reasonable people can blame both administrations and interpret history in different ways, but false facts are propaganda and must be opposed by all patriotic Americans.

The Repugs are lying (0.00 / 0)
There's no such thing as a "false fact."  If it's a fact, it's true.  Let's call the Repugs' propaganda by its rightful name--they're not "false facts," they're lies.  The liars know perfectly well that they're lying--they're just trying to fool us by repeating it over and over so we'll think it's true.

I need more synonyms for "lies" when discussing Republicans.

My problem is........ (0.00 / 0)
How much did Woodward know prior to the 2004 election and did he withold the information which could have put Bush out of office in favor of a big splash book launch.

I've become a pessimist, no one will be made to account for the lies, just as no one will pay for outing Valerie Plame or any other atrocities perpetrated by the fascist regime now in place in our country.  As far as I'm concerned all of the Republicans in Congress and the Senate should be tried(misfiesance) for failing to live up to their responsibility to check and balance this administration.  I'm also fed up with the mainstream media for crying that the Dems have no plan then refusing to cover Democratic press conferences and belittling every Dem idea. The only fair reporter is Keith Olberman.

I don't know about you'all but this week end my friends were more worried about who was playing in the baseball playoff's, Rutgers (as an almuna I can understand this preoccupation)and NFL.  I did not hear one discussion of the torture bill or Woodwards relelations.

I beleive people get the government they deserve.

Update (0.00 / 0)
According to a new article in the NY Times:

1.  Rice says she does not remember:

told reporters aboard her airplane that she did not recall such a meeting and said it was “incomprehensible” she ignored dire terrorist threats two months before the Sept. 11 attacks.

2.  However, a State Dept spokesman has confirmed that records show the meeting did happen.

This strongly suggests Rice is lying.

3.  However, the spokesman also says records say the meeting was described to the 9/11 Commission.  I'm glad this is the case.

This is still disturbing, however, and Kean still needs to reply.  It appears the Commission, either by incompetence or design, did not include this material that would have been damaging to Rice and Bush.
