My school's paper, the Daily Princetonian: Grad student alleges blog posts are GOP dirty tricks

The Star Ledger: Kean defends aide accused of trashing Menendez on blog

Asbury Park Press: Kean aide denies posting notes

The Record: Kean says aide didn't blog against Menendez:

Hazelbaker denied posting the messages Thursday and said it wasn't worth checking to see if anyone else on the campaign did so.

"It's the silly season," she said. "I did not go around to everybody's computers and check them. Anyone who knows me knows that when I have something to say, I say it."

One message that Melli said linked Hazelbaker to the anonymous posts concerned Menendez's relationship with a non-profit group that leased office space from him and is now the subject of a federal investigation.

On Tuesday, Hazelbaker had sought to downplay a contention by Ellen Weintraub, former Democratic lawyer for the House ethics committee, that Menendez's lease did not violate House ethics rules.

In doing so, Hazelbaker directed a Record reporter to another political Web site, the National Center Blog, on which a writer suggested that Weintraub did not deserve her current job on the Federal Election Commission. The writer asserted that Weintraub had a conflict of interest because her husband was on the Senate Democratic staff.

An ironic twist

Later that evening "cleanupnj" posted the same information on bluejersey.net, a day before the article appeared in The Record.

Nothing--

I am becoming concerned with their coverage.  It seems to be skewed toward Junior.

JJ (0.00 / 0)
They often only post their articles in print and not online. I don't have a print copy, so I don't know for sure if they wrote anything or not.

Juan:

I for one would LOVE to see a bar chart showing hits on bluejersey.net pre- and post-Astrogate.

And, if they are as good as I think they are, we should buy Jill some flowers.

Gotta love the publicity (0.00 / 0)
I used to think that all the flap over this was a bit silly.  I doubt that any GOP hack is gonna turn the yellow dog Democrats here into bible-thumping, gun-loving Republicans without mind control. But now giving a few days for the story to fester in my head, the best thing to come out of "bloggate" is that Blue Jersey is all over the political map in the Garden State.

New Jersey politics has always moved v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y (when I was young, I used to say that the state Dem party's motto was "don't trust anyone under 30" but now I'm 36 so draw your own conclusions), so maybe now some of our state party's elder statesmen will realize that the Internet is much more than as descrived by Alaska Senator Ted Stevens.

As Long As Jill and Junior Keep Denying The Truth... (0.00 / 0)
We have to take a page out of the Republican playbook.

They never let anything go.

In this case, the facts are incontrovertible.  The mails came from Juniors headquarters.

Even if Jill were telling the truth in that she "knows nothing" about who did what....even giving her the benefit of that doubt...she is STILL digging herself into a Nixonian hell hole by refusing to apologise and by refusing to condemn the tactics and by REFUSING to publicly announce an internal investigation to unearth the culprits.

A likely scenario that fits the facts is one in which Jill herself was an aware and willing accomplice in the shenanigans and she CAN'T "out" the perpetrators because they don't have the political "balls" to "take one" for Junior and fall on their sword to exculpate their boss.

Whatever the full truth really is, we'll never find out by letting this pass.

Every day that Junior allows this political paper cut to fester is another day that the infection and the pain spreads as the wound becomes an open and pustulent sore.

As as has been said here before, It's the cover up, Stupid!

This is now beyond a minor matter on an Internet blog; it has become emblematic of the whole hypocritical nature of the Tom Keane Junior candidacy.

Every day Junior tries to ignore this is a day in which it gets to be a bigger and more serious issue.

Bottom line (message):  If Tom Keane Jr can't come clean and acknowledge/deal with a relatively small and petty problem like this; how can he possibly be an effective US Senator with all the TRULY serious challenges that job entails???

In real politics (4.00 / 1)
you control the story as much as you can, you control the news cycle as much as you can, and you use what happens to paint the opposition in the colors you wish.

Junior Kean's staff has proven itself to be beyond incompetent.  They could have killed this easily and quickly in several different ways and, instead, showed what a bunch of amateur yahoos they are by just issuing denial after denial each time.  When you say, "I don't know nuthin' 'bout it", you leave it to the press and the opposition to know something about it, and you leave it to them to force responses from you.

All along I have been watching this campaign and wondering what we can do to "brand" Junior and his cohorts effectively so that the voters will have an unambiguous choice in November.  You have to pin your branding to something.  This is the something that gives us our branding.  The opposition is trying to brand Senator Menendez as corrupt, but they are incompetent and there is nothing to pin it to.  Xpat showed that by proving that Junior's charges are false.  But Junior has been disappearing every time something happens and his side has been simply lying and deceptive.  And that is the Junior Kean brand:  false and spineless.  When Kean's staff is caught, red-handed, indisputably lying on the web logs and then lying about their lying, Junior tries to dismiss it as nothing and run away from the issue without ever addressing the issue.  When families of military personal want some questions answered about Junior's position on Iraq, Junior, spineless and evasive, just won't answer.  And so it goes.  The Junior Kean brand:  spineless and false.

Are you guys kidding me (0.00 / 1)
Seriously, do you really think that Jill has the time to post on blue jersey....your site does a wonderful job of spin tho I must say....you acknowledge that the entire office has the capabilities of accessing the internet via the unique IP address (yet it must have been hazelbaker), and you only rave about the free press...only in your fantasy land would Jill Hazelbaker actually visit your site...You WISH....sinking to a new low democrats are!!!

nice try (0.00 / 0)
For those who can synthesize two or more ideas at the same time, here's the deal:

The IP address is only one part of it.  There's also the fact that she knew information that wasn't public at the time, the comment is nearly identical to the comments she made to reporters, and she tried to feed Record reporter Herb Jackson the same oppo research that she posted in the comment.

The fact that you can use "fantasy land" and "Jill Hazelbaker" in the same sentence makes me shudder.

Sad, indeed, on party is.  On the dark side, have they fallen.  Drunken, Yoda surfs upon Blue Jersey.  Astroturfs with the force.  Trolls with massive self-esteem issues.

*sigh*

Child of illigitimacy, you are.  Canine of female persuasion, intercoursing maternal relatives.  Ignorance, heaping piles, repeating endlessly, you are.
