The Sockpuppet Has No Sock

by: Juan Melli

Wed Sep 20, 2006 at 09:39:19 PM EDT

Jonathan Miller at the New York Times:
The Kean campaign’s technical adviser said that the Internet protocol, or I.P., address that linked the posts to the Kean headquarters was an old one, “from over a month ago.” But an e-mail message Ms. Hazelbaker sent to a reporter on Wednesday shares the same I.P. address.

Deborah Howlett at the Star Ledger:

Hazelbaker argued that the address Melli published -- 70.90.20.85 -- is not the campaign's IP address. It is, however, the same IP address that appears on numerous official campaign e-mails sent by Hazelbaker to The Star-Ledger through the course of the campaign.

Hazelbaker said last night that she could not explain why that IP address shows up on her e-mail, but that the campaign's technical staff assured her Melli had it wrong. She declined to say what the campaign's IP address is.

I'm sure this was just another one of their many "coincidences".

Busy Busy Busy (0.00 / 0)
“Oh, please,” she said. “I’m very busy. I don’t have time to focus on Blue Jersey. ... I don’t blog.”

-- Kean campaign press secretary, Jill Hazelbaker.

That's got to be the quote of the year.

I'll just add that to the list of things she doesn't do (0.00 / 0)
Such as:

1) Tell the truth.
2) Have a clue.
3) Allow morals to guide her work.

I'm sure there are more.

Let me help you explain it Jill (0.00 / 0)
You're lying.

That's the explanation. Lying to the public, and now lying to the press. Smart strategy - good luck w/that.

The Star Ledger confirms the IP address then... (0.00 / 0)
...and her response is, "Duh, I don't know how that happened."  And I imagine she really doesn't know how that happened or how much of anything happens, when you get right down to it.  Is she also counting on everyone else being ignorant as well?  Odd how a campaign that is relying heavily on bogus claims against their opponent's ethics resorts to so much lying and deceit.  Or maybe not so odd at all.

Juan you are the best.  I'm proud to know you.

Desperate (0.00 / 0)
This whole thing shows how desperate the Repugs are. I don't know which would be worse- that she is trying to cover her (or her staffer's) tracks so clumsily, or that she really has no idea what's happening down there. Great staffing choice there, Kean JUNIOR!

Maybe it's Ned Lamont's fault (0.00 / 0)
After all, wasn't it his supporters that took down Joementum's website and not the gross competence of Lieberman's staff?  Seems like the same kind of thing's going on here.

Next thing you know (0.00 / 0)
Jill will be saying it feels like a red hot buzz saw insider her head. Top o' the world Jill. Can anyone say meltdown? Wait until they learn that Democratic operatives will be hacking the machines, not only here, but nation wide. Imagine a blue Idaho or Mississippi.

Restore democracy and the Constitution for which it stands.

How does this blogging thing work anyway? (4.00 / 8)
Y'all are being too hard on Jill.  She's right -- campaign communications directors are MUCH too busy to read blogs, let alone post.

By the way, I am a lifelong Republican, but I don't think I can vote for Tom Kean Jr. because of his unconditional support for the war in Iraq, his shady history of shaking down corporate executives for campaign contributions, and his selling his vote to New Jersey's biggest HMO.

(Just thought I would share that, since it's my understanding that the Internet is anonymous and no one can see my identity.)

LOL (4.00 / 3)
TUBES t-t-t-t-t-t-TUBES

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

The Internets (0.00 / 0)
Only have tubes in Alaska.

Mainstream Media Exposure (4.00 / 2)
I didn't expect this story to get mainstream media coverage, but I couldn't be happier that it did.  And let's give due credit to Ms. Hazelbaker for digging herself even deeper with her response.  She's performing at a skill level worthy of Tom Kean Jr.'s direction.

She's earned this public humiliation and I'm sure she appreciates Blue Jersey's assistance.

Jill needs to take Dangerstein (0.00 / 0)
off her speed dial.
