Who Gets the Gavel?

by: Jay Lassiter

Thu Jan 12, 2012 at 08:18:18 AM EST

promoted by Rosi

The new Senate committee lineups are taking shape and I just got my hands on the list of committee chairmen/women. Some seem like a natural fit (Vitale, Scutari for ex.) while other appear wildly out of place given their backgrounds and leadership skills. But that's just my take.

Anyway, follow me below the fold to learn who the Senate's gavel-bearers will be for the next 2 years.

Community & Urban Affairs: Van Drew (because his district has so many urban areas)Environment &Energy: Smith
    Labor: Madden
Transportation: Sacco (lots of opportunities for graft)
Budget and Appropriations: Sarlo (even more opportunities for graft)
    Commerce: Nia Gill
Health, Human & Senior Services: Vitale
Economic Growth: Lesniak (the only economy that is going to grow is Ray's)
Education: Ruiz (good news for charter schools; bad news for traditional schools)
    Higher Education: Cunningham
Law & Public Safety: Norcross (I don't feel particularly safe with anyone named Norcross involved with anything having to do with the law)
    Judiciary: Vitale
    Military & Veterans Affairs: Beach
State Gov't, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation: Whelan
    Senate Legislative Oversight: Gordon
