Alex DeCroce 1936-2012

  • The Assembly's top Republican leader collapses and dies at the end of a long day and night in the last hour before midnight of lame duck session. Today, on what's normally a jubilant day of swearing in and new session, festivities have been canceled, as has the Governor's State of the State address. Gov. Christie will simply eulogize his friend before the Legislature, at 1pm today.
  • Assemblyman Herb Conaway, the Legislature's only doctor, tried to revive him.
  • Assemblyman Alex DeCroce collapses, dies in Statehouse after long legislative session.
  • Assemblyman Alex DeCroce dies at State House.

    Education

  • Bob Braun sees weakness or cynicism, or both, in NJEA's support of 'Urban Hope Act', joining forces with archenemy rchenemy Gov. Chris Christie and the powerful Camden County Democratic machine of George Norcross allowing private companies to build and manage public schools using taxpayer money. (Bob Braun)

  • Senate passes 'Urban Hope Act' over Rice objection.

  • The State of the Governor's Education Agenda:Christie was not short on ambition when it came to education, but how did he fare on his own promises?

Bad move by the NJEA (0.00 / 0)
Braun is right.  Aiding and abetting education privatization.  The Act is arguably unconstitutional since the NJ Constitution requires that public money be used to finance public schools.

    Marriage Equality (0.00 / 0)
Of course you meant to say that all of NJ's congressional Democrats came out in support--not the Republicans!

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."  (Teddy Roosevelt)

I'm glad you're alert. Yes, I did mean that, and just fixed the text. In my defense, I was operating on fumes assembling roundup in early, early morning after being up much of the night after hearing of Asm DeCroce's passing. That plus, as usual, I'm radically imperfect ....
    :)

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.
