Some context would help ... (0.00 / 0)
for those of us who don't live up there.

they are both icons of the district (0.00 / 0)
Pascrell has lived and served in the district, the other guy is moving into the district so he can run here; I support the candidate who actually knows, supports, and works for the district, not some carpetbagger

carpetbagger? (0.00 / 0)
Rothman has represented more of the new CD9 than Pascrell, so let's not be ridiculous and throw around words like carpetbagger.

He was Mayor of Englewood (0.00 / 0)
Rothman was Mayor of Englewood for years, and is moving back to that town.  Hardly a carpetbagger.

How about if we leave off the invective and run this race on the merits?

Why is it... (0.00 / 0)
...that you chose to focus on one of Paterson's few beautiful places instead of the terrible places like its many dangerous neighborhoods and schools?   These are serious problems that Bill Pascrell has failed to solve throughout decades as Mayor, Assemblyman, and Congressman, which are far more omnipresent than exceptions like this and Great Falls National Park, which are the exceptions that prove the rule.

I wonder if this is why so many Paterson elected officials, including its African-American mayor and Hispanic-American councilpersons are not endorsing Pascrell's re-election.  Maybe they are tired of getting icons of progress and instead would like real progress.  Maybe they are tired of machine politics in Passaic County that does more for the county's suburbs than its cities.  Maybe the people of Paterson would be best served of everyone if he moved to CD11 and ran against Frelinghuysen.

Some people ... (0.00 / 0)
like to focus on the positive, to promote the good about their community.

Call me crazy, but I like it.

time and a place for everything (0.00 / 0)
And focusing on one of Paterson's few beautiful places to try make a point about Pascrell as congressman is intellectual dishonesty.  Why not do a photo series on the city in its entirety and force Pascrell to take responsibility for it all?

People close to him defend his Paterson roots by saying that he is a Mayor who happens to have served in the Assembly and Congress as well.  If that is the case, then his entire political career and his re-election should be judged based on the health of the city of Paterson.

I don't know anyone who could get re-elected based on that and if the Pascrell-Rothman race were to come down to a comparison of quality of life between Paterson and the towns in the Bergen part of CD9, the result would be a landslide.

Why stop at Patterson? (0.00 / 0)
Why not photo-document the whole state?  Or country?  Or world?

The poster had a point he wanted to make, and he made it.  The idea that he should have to gear his posts to anyone other than his own thoughts is problematic to me.

He likes Patterson, and finds beauty in it that he wanted to share.

If you want to expose the ugliness of Patterson, take a drive and do it yourself.  But don't try to push other people to tell your story.

And, not, this is not wholly directed at you.  It is a pet peeve of mine I am probably reacting to too strongly.

No, it is a fair point (0.00 / 0)
But him liking the beautiful spots of Paterson is one thing.  Linking it to Pascrell is another thing and IMHO, it is intellectually dishonest, but so is most of what passes for political communication in this day and age, so I guess that I should just accept it and move on.

Paterson Is Gorgeous! (4.00 / 1)
The photo series will continue. It's a favourite subject of mine.
