Draft Connie Wagner for Congress

by: Bertin Lefkovic

Wed Dec 28, 2011 at 12:24:01 AM EST

Wagner supporters are using facebook to rally for her. Bertin has the link - so does Nick - if you haven't seen it. Anybody know if any other potential NJ-5 candidates have a social media campaign presence? - promoted by Rosi

Ever since it was first announced that Congressman Steve Rothman would be running for re-election in CD9 instead of CD5, I have talked up the idea of drafting Assemblywoman Connie Wagner to run in CD5 against Congressman Scott Garrett, based on my belief that she has the potential to be a stronger candidate in this district than Rothman, because of her capacity to attract national attention and dollars.

Just a few minutes ago, while reading a thread started by our very own Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, I discovered that a Draft Connie Facebook group has been started.  Please join me in joining this group and working to build energy and excitement around this extremely important effort.

Does she want to run? (3.50 / 2)
The last thing we need is a reluctant candidate.

Why Connie Wagner is amazing - and she truly is (4.00 / 1)
Connie would not merely be a reliable progressive vote, but like Rush Holt and Frank Pallone, she would be a progressive champion - one who would be in constant touch with progressives and easy for us to reach.  Truly one of us.  Rush and Frank are like that in Congress now, and Connie is like that in the state legislature now.  It's something that goes beyond their perfect voting records in Washington and Trenton.  In terms of progressive values, capability, approachability and likeability, Connie is in that league.  For those of you who don't know her, it will be love at first sight as it was for those of us who do know her.

Connie Wagner (4.00 / 1)
I haven't made a choice in that district yet, and don't know whether anyone besides Duffy will express interest. But of the potential candidates whose names have so far surfaced, Connie Wagner is easily the best known, has a track record of legislative service voters can judge her on, and would running to join a NJ congressional delegation that has not had a woman serving in Congress from this state for years.

I don't know who can beat that. Those are some very attractive qualities in a candidate.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.
