Mitt Romney, Chris Christie & Occupy Philly

by: Rosi Efthim

Fri Nov 04, 2011 at 02:09:00 PM EDT

Hey, boys and girls!

Mitt Romney, that colorless and flavorless probable consensus candidate the GOP will likely settle for once enough Republicans figure out the libertarian says too many things that horrify them, or give them the wild giggles (just google Santorum), and once they get tired of the party video, and that crazy-eyes lady who says she created the Tea Party sputters quietly down, and that ignorant, sexually harrassing lobbyist-in-a-hat has been kicked back to Ubecki-becki-becki-becki-stan-stan and ... um, where was I? oh.

But I digress. Mitt Romney will be the likely sad-assed leftover eventual candidate of the GOP largely because that magical Republican, Gov. Chris Christie, has sprinkled his more interesting fairy dust on him. There's no word whether Christie hisself will be meeting up with Mitt when Romney zooms up close to the Jersey border tonight, because Christie doesn't always tell us regular people when he leaves the state to do his political voodoo. But Romney will be at the Rittenhouse Hotel in Philly tonight to raise big bucks for his campaign. If there's one thing we know our Guv likes to be near it's Republicans with fat checkbooks, but we have no word he'll be there.

But we do know who will be.

Rosi Efthim :: Mitt Romney, Chris Christie & Occupy Philly
Occupy Philly is planning to march (details) from homebase City Hall to the Rittenhouse at 4pm to remind the people willing to pay $2,500 for a picture with the Mitt-man that too many are struggling with the vast economic inequity most of them are very comfy with.

In the last few weeks since the OWS movement started, Occupy Philly and Occupy Wall Street efforts in both cities have likely siphoned off participants from the occupation now going on across the street from the State House in Trenton - now in Day #30. One thing that may also be keeping Trenton's occupation much smaller than in other cities across the U.S. is the rousting of the 24/7 occupiers and seizure of their stuff, the belongings and communication equipment which is essential for the very nature of the kind of free speech they're trying to exercise. Occupy Trenton is waiting for a ruling right now on their free speech case against the state.

Meanwhile, we suspect there may be some New Jerseyans at Rittenhouse tonight. Say hi to Mitt for us.

Occupy GOP (0.00 / 0)
Instead of accepting Mitt Romney's nomination as a fait accompli, occupiers, progressives, and Democrats should be doing whatever it takes to vote in the upcoming GOP caucuses and help to nominate the least electable candidate (Michele Bachmann or Herman Cain are my picks).

Regardless of one thinks about Mitt's flip-flops, anyone who wants Barack Obama to win re-election underestimates Romney at their own peril.  If the economy is still bad a year from now, Romney will probably win.  Under these circumstances, I think that any of the Republican candidates, except Bachmann and Cain, could beat Obama.

So we can continue to observe the GOP primary from afar and poke fun at Romney's opponents or we can try to organize others to have an impact on the outcome.

I see you did not get the humor in my post. My bad, I'm sure.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

Sorry (0.00 / 0)
I don't have a sense of humor when it comes to Presidential politics.  We have a lame duck President in his first term, no progressive primary election challenger, and a motley crew of Republicans, who under normal circumstances shouldn't have a chance in hell of becoming President, having a chance in hell of becoming President.

This might seem like fun and sports for you, but it seems like the end of the world to me.  Then again, the end of the world is supposed to come in December 2012, regardless of who wins the Presidential election in November, so maybe I shouldn't give a damn either.

Gee thanks, rachael'sdad (0.00 / 0)
Cuz I didn't know any of that, she replied drolly.

I am not saying... (0.00 / 0)
...that you didn't.  There is no doubt in my mind that you know as much as I know, if not more.

For whatever reason, which you are more than entitled to, you choose to use that knowledge how you use it.  By all means, please continue doing so.  I am not saying that you should do anything differently than you are currently doing.

Just don't give me a hard time, because I don't find what you find funny as funny as you do.  Joey is a great person and I am sure that there are some people who think that he is funny as hell, but I don't think that he will ever be confused for Bill Hicks.  Then again, that's probably not the kind of humor that he is going for anyway, so no harm, no foul.

As far as I am concerned, there is nothing funny about the state of our state, our country, and our world.  I understand that this does not make me the life of the party here at Blue Jersey, but then again, I am not here to party.  I just want to share my ideas, opinions, and perspectives and not be crapped on, just because they might not gel with yours or others.

Is Blue Jersey a means to an end or an end unto itself?

I've tried to support Occupy Trenton (0.00 / 0)
and have found it very frustrating.  It would be good if they could post some sort of "schedule" of events so people who work around the state could make it down there.  I have also sent several posts on facebook to see if they needed any supplies and was there an address where we can mail items.  I got no response.

I went down one Friday with some friends, there were only two people there so we went to the "meeting" with the Tea Party and Libertarian folks, I thought it was a disaster.  The Tea Party folks were very political about taking over the Congress, now going for the Senate and adamant that "nothing was going to get done".  I worry about  attitude and any collaboration with them.

PS: has anybody heard about the $80M deal Christie made with Goya.  Tax breaks for creating jobs for people who already work for Goya.  In total the $80M deal created 9 new jobs.  Please report if you know anything

I agree with you that Occupy Trenton does not have its act together yet.  It has a ways to go in terms of publishing news about what it is doing, monitoring its own website chat, recruiting people, publicizing upcoming events, communicating among its core members, and responding to requests like yours. Being "leaderless" makes it difficult to reach consensus during its Geaneral Assemblies. There are two members in particular who promote the Tea Party and Libertarians, but many others want to be more inclusive. Recently they have had more members on site, but only time will tell how it all shakes out. I credit them for having endured 30 days and see some signs they are aware of the problems and trying to solve them.

I think the two young men I (3.00 / 1)
met the day I went were incredible.  I would love to do more, but also want to make effective use of time.  If anybody from the Woodbridge area would like to go down I'll drive.

What Bill is saying (0.00 / 0)
is true from my vantage point, too. I've been waiting for a wish list of supplies, so that I could publish it, because I know some of our readers would be glad to help out. Outreach could be better. It might benefit them to collect together the contact info of people who have reached out to them and keep in contact instead of relying that people will come down or log into their live chat.  I think two factors may be contributing; as mentioned there are fewer people than in other Occupy cities, so people are stretched a little thinner in terms of responsibilities. And they've also been dealing with confiscation of some of their stuff - including the tools of their occupation's communication (its very heart) -  with this court case over their right to occupy the space going on.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.
