Why Is This Even Legal??? (0.00 / 0)
Her work log claims that she was at work performing official duties....yet, unless the video is somehow fake, she was clearly using that time to enjoy her personal life.

If anyone did the same thing in the private sector they would be fired, especially in this job climate.....so why is there no oversight?

Can elected officials do ANYTHING they want in-between elections and still expect a paycheck?   Is there NO real accountability other than being voted out of office?  Does Boss Joe's SCOUS victory that got him of of a conviction mean that the concept of theft of service no longer applies in any way to NJ elected officials?

Why is there no agency or authority that can press a charge to hold her accountable?

Obviously, I'm being somewhat tongue in cheek, this IS NJ after all.   I suspect that if this level of scrutiny were applied to ALL public  officials that most of them would be caught pulling the same crap.

But still, this one got caught...and, as Rosie points out...this video is not likely to be seen by more than a handful of voters.......so if she manages to win re-election, there really SHOULD be some kind of official investigation and disciplinary action taken by a non-partisan government agency with the requisite authority.........and if no such agency exists, it should be created.

It's great that the BC Dems uncovered this....but if they had applied that much scrutiny to themselves over the last decade they might not have lost so much credibility with the voters.

Damn, I wish Loretta had stuck with the Real Bergen Democrats Movement and put up progressive/clean slates for EVERY elected office in the county.

Apologies, the above comment was meant for a different diary n/t (0.00 / 0)

If only more Democrats had voted in 2009... (0.00 / 0)
...this mess would never had happened.

Maybe, but... (0.00 / 0)
This whole thing doesn't speak to fantastic judgment running a government, either.

Silver lining? Complicates the conservative argument that business executives make good political leaders.

If only Corzine had stepped aside for Codey (4.00 / 2)
And if only Corzine had stayed in the senate in '05 and not forced Codey to step aside.

If only Jim McGreevey hadn't happened (4.00 / 1)
This is starting to feel like New Jersey's answer to Dayenu..."it still wouldn't have been enough for us!"

If only Codey (0.00 / 0)
had had the guts to run in 2005 or 2009.

That's not fair (0.00 / 0)
It takes more than guts for someone to want to take on Jon Corzine and his millions of dollars, especially when he has the backing of all of the county chairs whose coffers he has funded.

It probably would have been easier for Codey to challenge Corzine in 2009 and inquiries were made by the Obama administration that summer as to whether or not it would be necessary for Obama to intervene and convince Corzine to step aside on behalf of Codey, but Corzine convinced them that he would be able to win.

Also, I don't think that the bosses, especially Adubato and Norcross, were willing to go along with a switch by then, as their plan all along was to throw the election to Christie and turn the Democratic majority into a Republican-DINO majority.

I think that this is the reason why Adubato and Norcross were two of the few bosses in the state during the 90s who didn't go to prison.  They probably had a deal in place with Christie sometime during Corzine's first term.

such an unfortunate choice of wording (4.00 / 3)
It's amazing that no one noticed the double meaning before it went to print. I'll think twice from now on before using "convictions" to mean principles, knowing it could come back to haunt you later. Too perfect to even make up.
