Inky Slop

Imagine my surprise when I read this morning’s Inquirer to learn that the district I live in is “left-leaning.”

How did this reporter come to this conclusion?

Certainly it can’t be the fact that we perennially elect Republican Diane Allen to the state senate. While once touted as a “moderate” Republican, Allen has put political expediency ahead of doing what’s right by joining Governor Christie in his war on women’s health care.

Certainly it can’t be the fact that we perennially elect Democratic Assemblyman Herb Conaway, who voted with the Governor’s politburo to strip collective bargaining rights from public workers.

Certainly it can’t be due to redistricting which took blue-collar Pennsauken out of the district and replaced it with Moorestown, where electing a Democrat occurs less often than appearances of Halley’s Comet.

Just because a district elects Democrats to some offices does not make it "left-leaning."

The Inquirer’s reporting on the races is detailed and informative. But throwing around terms like “left–leaning” for this Burlington County district that elects Republicans and Conservadems is just sloppy reporting.

It's that Liberal Media... (0.00 / 0)

A sign of the times... (0.00 / 0)
In an age in which health reform legislation which leaves health coverage in the hands of for-profit insurance companies is routinely described as socialist, I suppose it follows that a conservative district is described as left-leaning. I wonder how they'd describe my district (Holt/Chivukula/Smith)? Commie? LOL

WTF is Wrong with the Inquirer? (0.00 / 0)
In today's editorial endorsement of Diane Allen, they call her a "social moderate." How can a politician who votes to deny health care for women be a social moderate? How can a politician who votes to eviscerate a program that provides assistance to special education kids be a social moderate? How can a politician who votes to deny legal aid to the poor be a social moderate? C'mon Inky. Do your job.

Apparently, a social moderate... (0.00 / 0)
... is a politician who refuses to cast a vote for or against a program cut, as Allen did repeatedly last spring.

Basically, the Inqy is saying a social moderate is someone who doesn't take a stand. Nice.
