What are you thinking, Blue Jersey? - promoted by Rosi.
"Women, you increase your odds of keeping your men by being faithful, a lady in the living room and a whore in the bedroom." "Tell your women they can't talk to you but they can moan." "Your new survival philosophy toward women should be pay, play, now get the F-k away."
This disgusting language comes directly from the Twitter account of Republican senate candidate Phil Mitsch. I want to apologize to you, Blue Jersey community members, for sharing such foul sentiments. I'm sharing these remarks with you because, frankly, I am outraged. And you should be, too. Not only for the remarks themselves, but because of the deafening silence of the Republican Party on Phil Mitsch's comments.
On Friday, I stood with local female elected and community leaders in my home town of Cherry Hill to condemn Mr. Mitsch's remarks:
Incomprehensibly, Mr. Mitsch has downplayed his remarks as though making such derogatory anti-women comments is acceptable because they were intended as a joke. As I explain after the jump, he couldn't be more wrong.
The year is 2011, not 1811. Women aren't property. Women aren't sex objects that should be seen and not heard. For a major-party candidate for state Senate to repeatedly suggest that they are is completely outrageous. What's more, when approached by reporters about these comments, Mr. Mitsch apparently played them off as a joke--as though it were just his dry sense of humor. But this is no laughing matter
I'm a mom, and I have a daughter. I'm sure many of you have daughters or granddaughters as well. As a major candidate for state Senate, Mr. Mitsch has a platform for sharing his views with the public, and when it comes to public policy issues, I disagree with many of his views. That's part of the democratic process. But we as a community simply cannot stand for allowing Mr. Mitsch's tweets to stand unchallenged. I believe we must send a strong message-not only to Mr. Mitsch-but to our daughters, granddaughters and future generations of women in New Jersey that disgusting remarks like this are completely unacceptable.
There is no place in New Jersey for derogatory, anti-women remarks of the nature Mr. Mitsch has made--none. I've been hearing from members of the community since Friday who are outraged that he would make such disgusting comments. The silence of the Republican Party on Mr. Mitsch's tweets is deafening. The Republican Party from top to bottom, including every candidate running alongside Mr. Mitsch on the ballot, should immediately condemn Mr. Mitsch and call for him to step down as a candidate.
Phil Mitsch isn't fit to be elected dogcatcher in New Jersey, much less state Senate. I hope you will join my call for him to immediately resign from the ballot by visiting my Facebook page and sharing the video above on your wall. Together, let's send a message that New Jersey won't stand for these of demeaning, disgusting remarks.
