Never, ever, put any value in what David Rebovich says. The only reason the man gets quoted by every newspaper in NJ is because political reporters tend to be lazy when seeking "independent commentary" and Rebovich is only more than eager to get on a phone with a reporter.  The man has no inside scoop on Trenton or politics in general.  He gets stuff wrong about as often as he gets it right, and when he does get it right, it's the most obvious analysis possible.  It's like taking a season ticket holder for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and making him an anchor on ESPN's Baseball Tonight.

I feel I must speak out about the so called "Christmas Tree", "pork" etc.  In Dec.2005 my non-profit agency was awarded a grant to support our food pantry.  We considered the grant when forming our projected budget for 2006.  When the Governor took the money out of the budget earlier is year we had to scramble to make up the deficit. When the money was replaced we were excited that maybe our money would be replaced, alas it was not.

My point is:  In 2005 we served 11,000 people in the food pantry.  We have seen a 40% increase in working poor seeking food.  The largest group of people who come to us are referred by the Veteran's Admnistration.  We are the only pantry in our area open daily 9-5.

The terms "Christmas tree" and "pork" are unfortunate, and they denigrate and trivialize the work that many agencies do.  It is also unfortunate that this program (which is actually titled the Special Protect and Prevention Initiative.) got mixed up with the other more political issues.
