Princeton Researchers Accuse NJ Election Officials of Cover-Up Fraud

Wow.

There is a reason to believe that New Jersey election officials have destroyed evidence in a pending court case, perhaps to cover up the noncompliance with these measures or to cover up irregularities in this election. There is enough evidence of a cover-up that a Superior Court judge has referred the matter to the State prosecutor's office.

We know of many cases of deliberate, organized fraud in primaries with absentee ballots so that's a real possibility.

On the other hand, it seems like it's possible that:

1. The ballot entries were swapped by human error. You'd just have to write down (type) a number wrong.
2. The required tests were (I'd guess) not performed and/or the technicians were so sloppy they didn't notice the test was bad.
3. The logs were deleted, possibly for the reason the technician said. I do try deleting log files on my computer from time to time to try to get it to run less slowly.

Even if this is the case, the problem then is that hundreds of groups of what amount to amateurs running a few elections a year are likely to screw up. Counting ballots by hand in a group may, with witnesses, may be a better procedure for humans. I don't know.
