Quote of the Day: "No. Next question."

by: Rosi Efthim

Sun Aug 28, 2011 at 02:26:03 PM EDT

After a morning spent briefing the Today Show, CNN and various other national news outlets, Gov. Christie did not make himself available to New Jersey reporters until a noon press conference at command center. All morning, as Star-Ledger's Ginger Gibson tweeted, the press was scrambling to get details on things that they were hearing Christie said on national TV, but couldn't get info from state officials. Lisa Fleisher, who covers the state house for Wall Street Journal pointed out via tweet that she couldn't get his appearance on Meet the Press on her dial. Because - of course - national programming was pre-empted by emergency coverage from the local stations.

Ginger asked about the concerns of people who weren't able to see their governor on national TV. His reply to her?

No. Next question. (rolling his eyes)

He later said writing about how he spent the blizzard in Disney just gives the media something to talk about and fill space with.

I can deal with a tired governor. But I think Christie has found a brand new way to be contemptuous. Particularly after a morning when he made sure to get all his star-turns in on national television, this is less than should be expected of him.

To be fair... (3.00 / 1)
We in North Jersey were barely out of the center of the storm when the noon press conference came on.  Noon seemed like a reasonable time to give a report to the state on an official update. Since the worst to hit North Jersey came between 5 am and 11 am due to the storm surge happening at the worst possible time of a high new moon tide, officials probably barely had time to be briefed and assess the impact on North Jersey  and by then - the entire state - by the time of the press conference.  He may not have wanted to be premature in his official remarks.   In fact , right now as I write this - we are in the midst of the last band of severe wind, power is STILL going out on folks from trees still falling.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

She should have asked the question better (0.00 / 0)
She asked him if he would care to explain and he didn't. Next time, she should ask 'Why did you go on national TV instead of briefing local reporters." Geez, it was a national news story. I got what I needed to hear from NJ 12 before the press conference. I'm not Christy fan but this criticism is as petty as Fox bashing Obama for his vacation. He thanked Obama, he thanked FEMA, he thanked government workers. And he's a republican for chrissakes. What other republican does that?

Good thing we have NJN to give us the latest news and info... (0.00 / 0)
ah crap.

jabs and jibes (0.00 / 0)
I thought his diparagement of the people of New Jersey was particularly telling as to what he REALLY thinks of the citizenry.

I lived in New Jersey many years and met and knew some of the finest, most giving and generous people you could ever want to know.

Instead of commenting to THAT, he says: Over a million people left the Jersey shore in 24 hours and did so in an orderly fashion. That is a pretty extrordinary thing for people in New Jersey to do anything in an orderly fashion. That's the great thing about the people of New Jersey. They pulled together in a time of crisis and put aside their "normal" behaviour patterns..."

Wow. back handed comments like that just keep reminding us all of the lack of class and character this guy bears with pride.

Its like he's trying to pat the people of New Jersey on the back but can't resist spiptting in their faces.

Class act.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.
